I am 35 years old, I have no kids, a good job and virtually not too much to worry about. But I always find something. I am so uptight I can not relax and just enjoy life. It interferes with my relationship with my SO because he is a take it as it comes kinda guy. I am a planner and a stressor. I feel that's how I got to where I am today. But how do I sit back and smell the roses?

I used to be like that. I was always worrying and stressing over things that hadn't even happened yet. I had a boyfriend a few years ago who taught me how to re-train my brain to relax, and it took several months (with some help from Lexapro), but now I'm a pretty carefree and happy person. Today, I have 3-year-old twins (one who has autism), an unemployed husband, and a stressful, low paying job. I should be in the insane asylum, right? But I'm not, because I taught myself to chill out and take life as it comes.

Try this exercise for starters: When you start worrying about something, ask yourself, "Is stressing out right now benefiting me at all? What positive thing is going on in my life at this moment?" And concentrate on that. Make yourself think positively, even if it seems dumb at the moment.

You have to just do it. You are responsible for your own happiness. You have to tell yourself the world will not come to an end if you decide to do something you like to do or something you always wanted to do.
I get that you busted your butt to get where you are now, but, the time has come for you kick back and enjoy it. Life is too short, just do it.

You must develope a mantra. You have to make your plan and purposely deviate from it. This will give you the confidence to accept change and to stop looking for the planned result. What is an SO anyway??
