They both cancel eachother out. Insane people make religions and sane people join insane religions and become insane themself.

There is no correlation between religious people and insanity.
Firstly, religion is about belief and control, however not all religion is about control. One thing among varied religion is belief. Belief may also varied from case to case. some of them is about culture or subculture, some of them is about common interest, some of them may be about socioeconomic status, who knows. some people claim that they are religious people, just for fun.
However, insane people are different. Primarily because they do not have a regular organization or institution that can representation their religion, for example churches or temples .
I may be wrong. It is just my opinion.

I disagree. I followed a heathenistic life style for years and it netted me STDs, substance abuse, and violence. Now that I follow the Jewish Messiah. My life as been relatively peaceful. If I'm insane to live in peace, so be it.
Non-Religious Ideology:::
Communists: 13 million Chinese starve to death (Great Leap Forward)
Nazi's (Super Human Race = evolution) 55 million dead.
I wonder what your definition of insane is?

I think this is a fair question.
There is a reasonable correlation between insanity and belief in God. Countless paranoid schizophrenics claim God as their chief guide in their action. Also, mental illness can make people more suggestible to rituals and behaviours that are associated with religion.
People like the much maligned Professor Richard Dawkins suggest in fact that Religion is a form of madness, a kind of mass hysteria or hallucination guided by the truest believers.
It's a convincing argument.
To all the haters, think about the question.

Not really worth answering. There's a difference between 'religious' and fanatic. A lot of little old ladies are religious (however that is defined) ....and they are just doing what they know. Praying and etc. Then there are people that are brainwashed. Then there are fundamentalist Islamics that want to kill and believe they are justified to do so...them- I'd just kill if possible. Then there are liars that are out to collect cash. Then there's Fred Phelps of Topeka Kansas...and his 45 followers who go to funerals and say God Loves Dead Soldiers....they too- may as well just be shot. They add no value to anyone's life...and detract from decency.

I would say that there are some crazy ones out there- like the white supremacists. But not all religious people are crazy, in fact, I have a great amount of respect for those who can put there faith in religion.

Disagree.
All religious people are insane, because they are suffering from delusional thinking, which, if the DSM definition had not been broadened to exclude them, would include them.
Not all insane people are religious, they could be suffering from a completely different disorder that does not include delusions.

I disagree. Anybody with sufficient ratiocinative skills to recognize that santa claus is a fraud but is unwilling to apply said skills to their god is technically insane. Not just technically; those people are totally insane. It's a sad world run by lunatics.
