I am sorry but I feel a bit confused with Islam (again) ..
Islamic society would rather committ murder than have someone make a reference to Muhammed in a manner which they don't like.
Yahoo news has "Thousands of people are marching in Khartoum calling for British teacher Gillian Gibbons to be executed"
This is not God's religion but their religion ... in other words ... Surely Allah didn't want people to kill eachother just because we make a silly reference to Muhammed to a class of babies??
Then again Islam has always been a bit over the top and outdated... hence terrorism ... and the belief that through violence they will achieve anything?
Over and over again history shows that this is not the case and yet they believe that they will go to heaven.
And in any case is it really the place of man to decide who dies and who doesn't ... perhaps Islam needs to be reminded that they are Allah?
Any other views??

bongernet (first answer), what the **** are you trying to say you muppet? That makes no sense at all.
i quote "islam is being of the one true religion of peace."
ok! then we have "You are being of such with this or we are being of chopping off your heads!"
Translated is that: "we are peacefull, shut up or i'll cut off your head?"

I would just like to point out that you've not mentioned the word Sudan or Sudanese in your question. I think where an event occurs where a Muslim or Islam is involved one should not assume that the entire global Muslim population or the religion of Islam is in some way involved, rather try to narrow it down a bit to the actual people, in this case the Sudanese judiciary.
edit-- firstly, Islam probably does inspire the laws of that county but there is also the issue of interpreting those laws, a process that is more easily said than done. Responsibility for the methods of interpretation in this case falls on the Sudanese judiciary alone and not on 'Muslims' and 'Islam,' as you say it.
Secondly, I wouldn't know what surrounding countries are doing, I would assume not much seeing as though this doesn't concern them. Britain is a powerful enough country to deal with such issues themselves.

I agree with you. It seems to me, though, that there are two kinds of Muslims, the ones who want to live peaceably in the world with others and the ones who want to just kill everyone. I know Muslims personally and they all seem to be the first kind. They say Islam is based on love and tolerance just like Christianity. It makes me think that the violent ones may only be getting disproportionate news coverage.
Christians, in years past, were also intolerant and murderous. You have to back a ways, though. The Crusades, the Salem Witch Trials, etc. I think it's just one negative effect of believing you have the 'one true faith'.
Something I've read is that Christianity changed, became more broad-minded and 'civilized' during the Enlightenment of the 17th century. And that Islam is still more 'primitive' because they never had an Enlightenment.

Is Mohammad and Allah so impotent that the followers must defend them at every turn?
Islam is the most insecure religion on the planet earth. Why else is there a death penalty in most Islamic countries for proselytizing or converting? If you have to force your members to comply via threat, what does that say for your religion? This is the same tactics used by dangerous cults. They claim to be a religion of peace, but force their members to stay under their control. That's not freedom, that's bondage.
John 8:31-32
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

I think any country that bases their government on religion needs to be overthrown and the people repeatedly slapped until they realise that they are baseing their lives on the words of men who said they talked to god or was his son.
If that happened now a days they would be locked up Or become president of America. Don`t forget that Bush said that god told him to invade Iraq.
I think all Religion should be abolished until it is proved one way or the other which religion is right If any.

You are right on. Religion makes you lose perspective when you get caught up in it. Death is in no way an appropriate penalty for what some one says. Maybe they never heard the "sticks and stones" rhyme in Sudan??
