No, you have to be in at least the 4th grade to be in the National Spelling Bee.

There SHOULD be a flyer with words to study, at least, that's what they did in my school.

If not, use a nice dictionary.

This most likely is not the national spelling bee. What happens is that teachers use spelling bees in the classroom for students to become excited about the competitive aspect of spelling. Those who do well might be invited to participate in a grade wide spelling bee at your son's school, then move onto larger, grade-based spelling bees. The kids in the national spelling bee have typically won spelling bees at the state and regional levels.

It's probably not the national spelling bee. That's usually older children. But if it were it wouldn't start right away at Nationals. They have to go to State and Regionals and actually win the school that he goes to spelling bee. It's a long trip to the actual National spelling bee. It's not an easy road.

Probably either a class or school spelling bee. Anything else you'd have been informed of long ago. If you have questions, why not call the teacher? Any time you have questions about your child and school, the first thing should be to call the teacher.

Not for nothin, but don't you think you would have been notified if it was a NATIONAL spelling bee? I mean we're talking the whole nation here,.... I think you would have heard by now that your kid was involved in this. It's probably a school, or grade wide within your school..... My son had one last year in 2nd grade where all 4 classes participated and they had alot of fun.
Don't quiz him to death over this either - it's just a fun thing - words he all ready knows, or should know. It'll just make him nervous when he should just be having fun.

No, it's not the national spelling bee. Just have him study his spelling list, and relax.

I have a pilates class on Tuesday ... is that the Dancing With The Stars show?

If it was the national one you would have found out long before now, the teacher owuld have had to have your permission adn everything. I say it is just a fun school thing for his grade. All you need is his spelling book that he has been using to do his english work, they will not take words he has never had to study before.

We use to do them when I was in primary and elementry, they were fun! We would have classroom contests then grade level contests, we were learning but never cought on to that fact because it was a game :)
