The two things I enjoy most in life is doing art and trying to do 'good.' I have an M.F.A. in writing and an M.A. in counseling. When I started writing four years ago, I got about 15 short stories/essays published within 2 years (and wrote a lot more). Then I started thnking--all this 'arts' stuff is just a waste of time. I got a job with a social service agency and started working with juvenile delinquency issues, public health, housing, etc., which is really interesting and rewarding. But now I will be working and suddenly I'll get an idea for a story, and my mind starts going into the 'creative zone' and all the endorphins kick in, but I have to push them down to stay focused on my task. And now I haven't written anything creative in two years, and it's like I have a big hole inside me. I've been diagnosed with ADHD by 3 doctors, but when I told them my dilemma, all they could say was to adjust my medication, but I don't see that as an answer. Any advice?

write your thoughts down so you don't forget them. when the time and place in your life is right then it will be there. i'm waiting until my children are in high school to begin my book. i've been told that my story has all elements to it, the truth for one, ability to meet all age groups, will touch both men and women and it penetrates the soul. a true story of survival.... i've kept all my diaries for the past 40 years, yup.... and its all there. you need to make a living while you write, i own a business that will help with the finances. when the student is ready the teacher will appear, the right place and time will be know to you immediately in your spirit. you will know what to do when your soul quickens and you know what it means....trust your inner self to know when the time is right....good luck... forget about the medication, have you not heard about the health issues related to ADHD medication and how it has affected people. Maybe your doctors need to be on medication.....don't understand why the only solution for some doctors is to put the person on a pill, kick backs from the drug companies must be pretty high up there if the doctors are still trying to numb the person instead of dealing with the problem. too many doctors /people treat the symptom and not the problem....

I keep a journal handy all the time and make notes so I can come back to creative ideas after work or when I'm more awake (I get ideas at night, too).

why don't you write something for juvenile delinquents to relate to?
