I want to rent a local hall. My house is way in small for everyone. It's also in January way to cold for an outdoor party. I think I want to have a circus theme. Have clowns, and face painting, and things of that nature. Not sure what to put in the goodie bags, ages will run from 1 to 13. Any ideas for games ,and activites for the kids?? I also thought since her b-day is January 1(week after xmas) instead for gifts. Bring items for childen less fortunate then ours. Like hats, mittens, and such. Sound good to anyone?? Ideas?? I have to start planing this ASAP.

I will be getting her gifts, and my close family will too.

I think what you are considering sounds great, but I would definately make sure to give the two year her own gifts. I know a few people with close to Christmas birthdays, and they always feel passed over because of it. Although, with a party like that, it would be hard to feel forgotten.

Sounds great, except I would definately leave out the clown. For starters, that's another extra expense, and then also lots of little kids are scared of strangers AND of clowns. You don't want 15 crying kids.

Face painting is great, and I know how you feel about having to rent a hall. My son's birthday is in February, so his birthday last year and both of my baby showers had to be somewhere other than home or outside.

Just hang circus-themed decorations, and play games with the same theme- pin the nose on the clown, maybe, or something like ring toss. Think of the midway at the fair and do similar games.

For the gift bags, I know that almost all kids like stickers and coloring, and maybe you can get something a little different for the older kids. Maybe a candy bar in their bags instead of the crayons, or something like that.

Good luck!

Invitations - use colored construction paper folded in half and decorate the front with circus stickers. Write the party details inside.

(Family Last Name) Entertainment Proudly Presents
(Birthday Child’s Name) Birthday Circus!
The Greatest Show on Earth!
Appearing One Day Only: (Date of party)
Show Time: (time party begins)
Under the Big Top: (Location)
Don't Clown Around: RSVP to the Ringmaster (your phone number)

Clown Face: Ask a friend or parent come to the party and help paint clown faces on the children.

Circus Stunts: Have the kids perform simple stunts, such as a somersault, a tightrope walk on a piece of tape, an animal walk or a step through a Hula Hoop.

Make Elephant and Monkey Sandwiches (peanut butter and banana) for your hungry clowns. Serve with a side of Chocolate Tiger's Milk.
Serve Monkey's Favorite Treat: Stick bananas on Popsicle sticks, freeze and serve. If you like, roll the frozen bananas in peanut butter and sprinkle with crisped rice cereal.
Make or buy giant pretzels, a favorite circus treat, and serve with melted cheese or mild mustard.

birthday goody bags - silly straw for older kids, animal stickers, water squirt toys, bubbles, a packet of animal crackers.
Tie the bags with ribbons and attach big red clown noses labeled with the party guests' names.

Before preparing your circus-themed menu, make sure none of your guests is allergic to peanuts

consider purchasing the following items:

Red clown nose for each guest
Bubble machine
Prizes for the party games
Disposable Cameras

Popcorn Gum in Popcorn Box

That sounds great just what you said. As for goodie bags....stick with your idea for helping people less fortunate. Give every one a nice Thank You for giving Card and attach a lollipop or something along those lines. And give the "goodie bags" to a food bank. You can ask for canned goods to include in them.

My friend has done that in her family. Every birthday they ask every one to give a teddy bear and a necessity item (toiletries, soap, wash cloths etc). Then the family gives all the items to the local woman's shelter. I think that it's a great idea to help others especially when we are so blessed.

It's sounds really sweet, but I think it's too much. Chances are that your child will not even remember it. He (or she) would be just as happy with a cake and some balloons at home. When he or she gets older he or she will want to have a party with friends. You're going to spend alot of money then, so save your pennies. You can still have a circus theme at home, paint his(or her) face, paint yours and your guest. Keep the list small, don't invite too many people.

That's just my opinion, hope everything works out for you either way.

Does Lydia really NEED this huge party? I read a lot of "I want's" and "I have to's" in your question. My daughter was thrilled at 2 years old with cake and a couple of new toys. It is not a question of affordability as much as you are going to have to up the ante every year (You will need Yankee Stadium by the time she is 8.)
Take it slow...don't be so enthusiastic to throw an impressive party that you drive yourself crazy every Christmas season trying to outdo the last one. You can love your daughter just as much without spoiling her with face painting and clowns when she can barely understand the purpose of the event.
Good Luck! You really love that kid and it shows...just don't drive yourself crazy showing it to everyone else!

Its your childs birthday not another one. I think it is rude and inconsiderate to give gifts to another child on your kids birthday such as mittens and such. If your child gets two of the same thing or receives a gift that she doesnt like than after people leave you can give them to the needy.

Games such as hide and seek, pin the tail, bowling or mini golf are fun.

But my advice is keep this a party for your child, not a fundraiser for the less fortionate. People gave to the needy for christmas already, lets not overdo it.

it sounds nice, and since it seems you have money, you can purchase premade favor bags. you can have a juggling session.. a safe tight rope thing.. that kind of stuff.
