using acrylic as color and then lightly layering it oil for shadow and darken, just as a laying between the two. anyone know how to do this?

As oil does not mix with water; only oil paint should be used on top of acrylic. Acrylic will crack if you put it on top of oil. You should break this rule only if you understand it. I use oil and acrylic, but only in their own paintings. Oil=traditional, acrylic=modern

You can do this......if your are VERY patient. Layers need to be completely dry when you attempt this and oils takes forever to dry completely.

I would suggest you take acrylic medium and retarder to do what you planned on doing with the oil paint.

The technique is called glazing by the way.
