You can treat for mites at home. You need to buy Revolution for Puppies/Kitties. I bought mine at this site:
https://www.petsuppliesnet.com
Place one small drop on the skin between his ears, let it absorb for a couple of minutes (distract him from grooming) and he is done. You should clean the entire cage really well before putting him back into it. Also, you might want to freeze his food and bedding before putting it into the cage. Mites can come from there too. The mites & lice have a 3 week life cycle and since Revolution stays inside a rat's system for 30 days you are covered.
You can also get Revolution from your vet. If you go to the vet, they may try to give him Ivermectin injections. They can be expensive, ineffective and can cause an abscess at the injection site. Try to get your vet to use Revolution instead. Good luck!

You have to take them to the vet, they will treat them with a liquid that is swabbed onto your rat's ears and absorbed through the skin or it can be injected. Many rats have a bad reaction to the injection, but most vets prefer to inject, to be sure that the rat gets the full dose. Treatment is given every two weeks until the mites are gone, usually two or three doses.
You also have to thoroughly clean their cage to get rid of the mite eggs or your rats will get reinfected.

Yes take them to the vet. Mites sometimes carry diseases. And your vet can recommend a good way to kill the mites on the rats and give them an antibiotic so they don't get an infection
Clean out their cage completely throw out any wood shavings put all cloth bedding and soft toys in the washing machine or hand wash in hot water, same with their food dishes and anything plastic and the cage itself

You should take your rat to the vet if you suspect mites. You could see patches of hair loss. Sores caused by mites look crusty, reddened and are itchy. They are spread by direct contact so keep other pets away. Disinfect your rats cage with a water/bleach solution. This will kill the mites. Throw away anything made of wood as eggs or adults could be lurking in there! You can purchase mite treatments from the pet store but there are different types of mites so it is suggested that you go to the vet.

The common treatment for mites is Ivermectin. As another person suggested, you should take your animals to the vet and clean all cages and inspect any bags of bedding you may have around. Ivermectin is a very toxic treatment and some animals do not do well during treatment. That is why you should consult a vet before staring any types of treatments. good luck

First, allow me to get the following off my chest:
EWWWwwwwwwwwwwWWWWWwwww!!!!
Thank you!
Second, if you truly care about any animal you own, why are you wasting precious time asking such questions on this or any other website? And why would you trust any answer that anyone on this or any other website would give you???
Third, per the above, take your pets to the vet, immediately. You and your parents will probably need to do some major clean-up in your home, as well.

do they have little white things all over them? are they constantly scratching, and as a result have small, bald patches on them? if the answer to these questions are both yes, then they have moites. dont worry, its not a big thing, but i advise you to take them to the vet. they will give you a special thing to get rid of them.
