who do you feel is more at fault?:

1) The teacher for not knowing better.

2) The kids for not knowing better.

3) The kids' parents for not teaching them better about their own religion.

THIS IS NOT INTENDED TO OFFEND ANYONE, I'D JUST LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. If 1-3 above doesn't satisfy you then please give a different reason.

(and to the Stalinist Y! censor who is stalking me - if you delete this before it posts you will be hearing about it from your supervisor)

[Where are you from?]

USA - California.

[What religion do you follow? ]

not much of any at the moment.

[What religion were you raised as? ]

Baptist (Christian)

[Why are you so interested in Islam? ]

I feel that the God of Jews, Christians, and Muslims is that same one I learned about, if so, why are Muslims so very different than the other two and can't seem (at least in these times) to get along with the other two?

[We know your a chemist from one answer and we know you are so willing to find bad things about Islam, is there a point?]

Yes, as a scientist I have learned to not reject everything out of hand that I don't understand (in spite of what I might occassionally say), especially when I'm not an expert in a particular field (like Islam). Some of the sites I alluded to are quite careful in their analysis of the koran and have rather damning conclusions about Islam. My training as a scientist compells me to get the other side. Have I not done this in

the most courteous ways at times? Yes. Can I be a jerk sometimes? Yes. I have had Muslim friends before and even went to the post-Ramadan feast hosted by one (man, could she cook!). I have also spent time "pestering" followers of Hare Krishna and Catholics with all sorts of questions that may not have been very flattering, but were intended to help me on my own spiritual journey.

Kimo: If you don't like me (understandable) or my questions then don't answer them. I wouldn't have posted this question if the new story about the calls for the teacher to be executed hadn't happened. I feel that executing her (much less whipping her) is WAY over the top for what she did (intentional or not).

BTW, Kimo, this issue isn't about the toy, its about going way overboard with punishment.

4) The Muslims in Sudan for not knowing better.

They need to learn to forgive and forget, she didn't mean to offend anyone. It's really silly...

None of those. It is the fault of closed minded muslim police. They shouldn't have done what they did. That woman didn't do anything wrong to be treated that badly. I don't know what's the problem with calling a teady bear or even a teady dog Muhammed. We know that our prophet is not any of these animals so why should we get angry and offended. It's like someone passes by you and tells you you are a girl. You know that you are not a girl, why do you get offended, just laugh at them and move on.
They just give a bad idea about islam
Peace

I'd say none of the above.

I know many teachers who are close to me, and I understand how teachers think. I also know many children and realize why they had chosen that name Muhammed. A teddy bear is a sign of love for most children, and teachers as well... there was an innocent bound between the teacher and her students, until others came in and put a lot more weight on the children's and teacher's innocent action.

all the Sudanese who made a huge deal out of this..its their fault. They need to be educated about Islam before passing a rediculous punishment like that.

btw, i compliment you for your curiosity about religions. Most people will usually draw hasty conclusions and youre out there asking questions :) good job

well, wouldn't a teacher who is teaching in an Islamic country have an ethical responsibility to not offend the religious beliefs of the parents? If a Muslim went to a Jewish school and insulted them by saying the holocaust was fake, what do you think they would do?
The kids are not of the age of puberty so they can not be held responsible for their sins. The parents probably never in their lives would imagine someone would come and allow their children to named a stuffed animal after the Prophet Mohammed(saw).
I do not know if you have been anywhere in the Middle East, there are not a bunch of kids running around with toys like this. I would assume it is the same as in Sudan.

Also, in your last question Maria and I would like to know.
Where are you from? What religion do you follow? What religion were you raised as? Where do you live? Why are you so interested in Islam? We know your a chemist from one answer and we know you are so willing to find bad things about Islam, is there a point?

1) Teacher was teaching in Sudan, and she is a TEACHER hardly any educated person would not know about Muhammad. and if she doesn't know, means she doesn't fulfill the job of being a teacher, first thing.
2) Its teacher's job to tell the kids that a Teddy bear should be names something like johnny or hulaloo which could attract such innocent children as I believe no children are that much smart to call a teddy bear Muhammad by insisting and forcing their Teacher, lolz.. what a innocence of a teacher.
3) yes, parents should educate their children well about their religion as well. but teachers are also considered as a child's second parent.

NOW PLEASE STOP ASKING QUESTIONS ON THIS~!

i have just been listening to the radio about this, the guy talking was a top muslim spokes person, he said what is happening to her is so wrong, he said she should have just got a ticking off for it, as she dosent follow their religion, and dosent understand it, she should have just been sent home..... but it seems now they are talking about shooting her.... like i said to similar question asked... another excuse for bloodshed in the name of religion

the whole thing is not worth the attention its getting.
Simple verbal warning to the teacher would have been enough if they thought she meant to offend muslims.

the child leave the child alone...he is just a kid.

e parents....I'm a parent and I wouldn't say anything to my kid except that would be an opportunity for me to teach him about Prophet Muhammad(saw).
