my 5 year old daughter was diagnosed by her doctor with acid reflux/GERD and was put on prevacid for kids. she has been on it for 2 weeks now and is still getting symptoms like before. stomach aches(especially in the morning). she is a very healthy eater, surprisingly for a 5 year old. loves veggies and fruits, fish, ect. and we dont let her eat a lot of junk or soda.
i had asked the doc if it could be lactose intolerance, and he said he didnt think so because she doesnt ALWAYS get a tummy ache after eating/drinking dairy.
anyone have a child with symptoms like this that was diagnosed as something other than acid reflux? in the back of my mind, i am always worried it could be something more serious.
**thanks**

i dont think it is from school, because her problems started before she was in school. she has always been a very serious little girl though, so maybe stress could be a factor.

Anytime a med is not effective you have to go back or consult another source.

I am a funny lactose intolerant person. I CANNOT digest milk products before noon. After that, I can do cheese & ice cream & yogurt, but I still don't drink milk straight.

Keep looking for the problem until you find it. Your poor youngster doesn't deserve, esp with her excellent eating habits, to suffer like this.

I had the same symptoms as your daughter for years before my mom took me to the doctor. Turns out that my stomach is misshapen and the muscles don't work properly. Instead of contracting when I eat food, they drop and send my stomach into spasms. I would take your daughter to a digestive specialist. They can run some tests to see what is going on. Good luck!

When I was a child, I had excruciating stomach pain. I would be doubled over in pain and unable to walk. We never got to the bottom of it, but it eventually went away. My mother always thought it was gas. If it is stomach pain alone w/o other symptoms, it could be any number of things.

If she is on the prevacid, you need to watch what she is eating. I have GERD and certain food aggrevate it, such as caffeine, dark colas, certain veggies, fried foods, acid foods (like oranges, grapefruits etc). Try keeping a food diary and see if you can see a pattern of problems after she has eaten these foods. Good luck

Stress would be my guess. Many children are overscheduled with activities. Could the be something wrong at school? Maybe a teacher or another child is not being nice to her?
