I have been working with this family for 6 hellish months...mom is suicidal...dad is just an ***...my job is to care for 2 yr old with health problems...therapists praise me constantly on how much progress baby has made since i've started with family...had a discussion with parents about involving me in their personal life (i was loosing sleep and crying at home over their problems i.e.impending divorce) and things have been tense ever since...now i think they are video taping me with the baby...i have never done anything to make them worry about what i do when they are away.....should i be offended or am i over-reacting? I really love the baby and want to continue to help her but her parents are driving me crazy and the pay sucks!! What should i do?

As long as your not doing anything wrong then there is no worry about the video tapping. If this is the case. It's too bad the parents are in such a disarray. There life maybe this way because they do not have a healthy baby. This can wear on parents who don't see the blessing that they have. God makes no mistakes and the lesson they need to learn from this treasure is being overlooked by the parents. I would say they are very self centered. Sorry for your predicament but try to make the best of a bad situation. Your love for this child just may wear off on them. I'll be praying for you and this family. Take care.

Don't be offended but if the work environment is not a good one you should probably leave. Try talking to them about it. Sit them both down and tell them your concerns. You may want to have something lined up in case you decide together that you are not a fit for them and their needs. I know you probably love the child like your own but you also have to think about your health and life. You don't have to put up with that and you shouldn't have to. There are so many nanny jobs out there that probably pay more and the environment would be better for you. Good Luck

I wouldnt be upset about it. The dad seems to have some
issues he needs to deal with. From what you wrote down.
The video taping is just a security issue. Seems someone
either the dad or mom are feeling insecure about life. Dont
take it personally if so tell them so.
There is no problem if there is , find the solution. Its ur life.
You make ur own decisions and they will have consequences.
Like all the rest of us.

Well I can't really give you advice on whether you should quit the job or not. I think it depends on how much you are willing to give up , both econcomically and socially, to care for this young child. However, as far as the videotaping goes, there are some real nuts ouit there and honestly if i had a nanny i would videotape her too. I dont' think you can be too careful with your children. I wouldn't be offended, its just a fact of life in this messed up world. There are some real sick people out there and I can't blame a parent for wanting to make sure their child is safe. Please don't take offense....I don't know you so I can't judge you. I would do this to any nanny.

If its that bad, I would get a letter of referance from the therapist, and anyone else you can. And start working on your resume. Its kinda weird to be video taped, but you might have to put up with it. It doesn't sound like a job worth stay in!

I have a special needs child and EVERYONE that takes care of her is on camera...and they know it. I don't take any chances as she can't tell me what someone does to her. On the other hand these parents sound like they probably have another motive than the safety of their child. Perhaps they think you are speaking badly of them to the therapists or that the therapists are speaking badly of them? Don't know how I would necessarily react

I would not be offended, I would not quit either just becasue it, let them do it, if it makes them feel better. Just put your self in there shoes one time and see just what they are going through, it has nothing to do with you if you are doing everything right. Maybe they are doing thids to get there mind off something else. it is easier to point the finger at someone else then it is to yourself. So they have alot of problems and do not know how to deal with it. But do not make this chage how you deal with the kid.

I think i might be a lil offended. They have no reasons to so why are they? And have you asked them if they were? Or what makes you think they are?
In the end though you need to worry about yourself. So if you are very miserable i would start looking for another job

I wouldn't be offended . . seems to me that videotaping a nanny isn't a bad thing necessarily. Just don't take it personally. But on the other hand, if you need to leave this job for all of the above listed reasons, I would support you in that!
