No problem, any time.

Adopted (notice verse 15 below) has siad it very well. He gets my vote.

Let me add what Brother Paul said.

Romans 8
1There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

3For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

4That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

5For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

6For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

7Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

8So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

9But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

10And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

11But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

12Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

13For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

15For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

16The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

17And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

18For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

19For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

The Spirit gives life (quickeneth). The flesh can't do that so it is of no profit.

The Spirit of God was the force that raised Jesus from the dead (the resurrection). Were Jesus nothing more than an ordinary human, the resurrection would not have happened since the flesh (mere mortal humanity) profiteth nothing (is no good).

The spirit lives on after the bodies dies. Jesus is saying that He has the authority to save any spirit He chooses, but the body will die. The Words He spoke are food for the soul, (the soul is a spirit housed in a body). The spirit is released from the body at the time the last breath is taken. Jesus has complete authority over this spirit, (I judge no man) Jesus can make this spirit go wherever He wants, into another body, (no new wine in old bottles, reincarnation, or ressurection, but the body will die)

We are spirit housed in a body, read Luke 11:24-26 and the stories of Lazarus, read them with understanding.

Realy amazing reference

Few crucial words
Spirit
Flesh
Life
Words

It is the Spirit who quickeneth or who gives Life.
After resurrection and through resurrection brother Don, our Lord Jesus who had " Become Flesh" ( John 1:14) became the Spirit who Quickens and gives Life.

Crucial verses
John 1:14

And The Word BECAME flesh and tabernacled among us ( and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only Begotten from the Father) full of grace and reality ( truth)

1 Cor 15:45
Christ we know is also referred to as " the Last Adam"

" So also it is written, " The first man Adam became a living soul, the Last Adam became a Life Giving Spirit"

So we see here brother, that it is as the Life Giving Spirit that He can be Life and the Life supply to us as His believers. When we receive Him as the Crucified and Resurrected Savior, the Spirit who gives Life comes INTO us to impart eternal LIFE into us. We receive the Lord Jesus, but we get the Spirti who gives Life.

Flesh...
The Flesh here in this verse is according to the context, refers to the meat of the physical body. When theLrod said " the bread which I will give is My Flesh" ( vs 51 of this passage), the Jews thought He would give them the meat of His Physical body to eat) vs 52). They did not understand the Lord's word rightly. To them it was a hard word. Hence in this verse the Lord explained that what He would give them to eat was not the meat of His physical body, the meat which is the flesh profits Nothing. What He would give, eventually, after death and resurrection, was the Spirit who Gives Life, who is the Lord Jesus Himself in resurrection.

Good verse

2 Cor 3:17
And the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom"

WORDS
Brother Don, the greek word for " words" here in this verse and also in Vs 68 is RHEMA, which denotes the Instant and present spoken word. It differs from the Logos ( used for Word in John 1:1) which denotes the Constant word.

Here " the words' follows " the Spirit' The Spirit is living and real yet He is very mysterious, intangible and difficult for people to apprehend; " the words" however, are substantial.

First the Lord Jesus indicated that for giving Life, He would become the Spirit. Then he said tha the words he speaks are spirit and life. This shows that His spoken words are the embodiment of the Spirit of Life. he is now the Life Giving Spirit in resurrection, and the Spirit is embodied in His words. When we receive His words by exercising our own spirit, we get the Spirit , who is Life.

This verse alone is an amazing bible study and maybe a whole message could be given on it:)

The flesh is the worlds way of doing things and it is all out for itself not for God's Kingdom or even anybody else. The spirit is for the Kindom of God and for others from the heart not the head. How smart is it to trade 10 cents today instead of 10,000,000.00 in ten years? But that is what the flesh wants us to do everyday. God's Word is the spiritual food we need to prepare us to live forever in His Holy Dwelling.
The flesh says I want it now, however we may live maybe 80yrs. here but we are going to live for trillions of yrs. in the next life. The flesh doesn't want us to think about the next life.
Take care and may God bless you spiritually.

Just my thought on this as I don't claim a great understanding of God's writing. Here goes....our flesh accomplishes nothing that honors our Creator. By flesh it means our human behavior. But our spirit , once we have accepted Christ, is communing with the Holy Spirit and is seen by God as though it was Christ....pure, innocent and blameless. If you are not a believer this will mean nothing, but if you are a believer it means everything. God's word says our works (flesh) will not get us saved but our faith (spirit) will. Just a thought.

Well since the Flesh, has Desires that thinks it could pre-exceed the Spirit, Which the Spirit Is of Father God in Heaven, were asking Him to remove Self from Spirit i,e.
Someone offended me when I was Praying 11-29-07 and listening too my gosple music, when it was all said and done, This morning 11-30-07 there was a ? asked to my concious spiritually, well what would self do?because this racist person verbally attacted me rite when I was praying, Self answered and said beat the hell out of him, The spirit side of me said, Father God will take care of this fool, So I tried the self asking to self again, self said again and again said, to beat the hell out of this fool, until I Asked Father God to make the flesh/self see the truth for what it is in his Teachings, So now self/flesh says let the Spirit of Father God move within that f/s part and be (QUICKENED) also. It can't hurt.
Now Flesh/Self is getting in alignment with Spirit, which is not easy because self /flesh will and must die eventually, So it's better to except and want the (QUICKENED) to me as a whole which kills the desire of that which is not of Father God in Heaven, So I'll continue to ask for the Fast Quickening of the Spirit of Father God in Heaven. Because the attacts of the wicked people don't want me to stick to my now (NEW)- way of dealing with life, So this keeps the Flesh /Self part from Beating the Hell out of these Demons that cross my path. I choose to let Father God do it, He can beat them worse than I can. But I do know our Day will come one Day , and those so called Demons, well let me put it like this:

WE KICKED THE DEVIL AND DEMONS OUT OF HEAVEN:
WE ARE GOING TO KICK YOU OFF GODS EARTH.
NOW EAT THAT SATAN FOLLOWERS.

Jesus is pointing out in His soliloquy that what we discern through the Spirit in faith is the truth but that which we discern through reason or intellect will not profit us.

He was speaking specifically of the Eucharist in which His Body Blood, Soul and Divinity can only be discerned through the Spirit in faith. After all, He was speaking of a miracle of God that transcends time and place to the one sacrifice for all humanity.

St. Paul further emphasizes this teaching when He says in one of His pastoral letters that unless one discerns the true Body and Blood they bring condemnation on themselves by receiving the Eucharist without faith.

In Christ
Fr. Joseph

I am amazed and shocked at the allegorical liberties that are taken on this Scripture passage. Everyone without exception has taken it out of context and used allegorical liberties to the extent that the entire teaching of our Lord has been lost. This is very sad that there is such a vacuum of biblical scholarship and consequently understanding.

Warrior,

Your interpretation makes absolutely no sense. Are we really to believe that Jesus who had just commanded His disciples to eat His flesh is now telling them that it is for no purpose? Is your interpretation that they are ordered to do something that is a waste of time? Keep in mind that the disciples who left believed what He said about eating His flesh and that is why they left but note that Jesus made no effort to stop them and explain that he was only speaking symbolically as He had always done before when His parables were misunderstood. He even asked His own disciples to leave if they did not have faith in Him. Don't torture the text to read into it the opposite of what Jesus taught at Capernaum but accept it through faith in the teaching of the Spirit. That is what the Church has done for 2000 years. Follow the teaching of Jesus and the apostles instead of your modernist heretical doctrines of men such as the author of this heresy Ulrich Zwingli.
