As far as I can tell, the Sudanese feel that Ms Gibbons was saying Muhmmad is like an animal.

Presumably they thought Ms Gibbons was saying "An animal is dirty and st upid, Muhammad is dirty and stupid, therefore I will name this animal 'Muhammad'".

If I name a disabled child "Muhammad" then am I necessarily saying the prophet Muhammad was disabled?? Will you try to kill me?

tyler - A teacher in the US could name a teddybear "Jesus Christ son of god" and then say something like "this bear loves you all, how do you feel about Jesus?" and trick the kids into having "good" thoughts about Jesus. Heck probably that's what they do in sunday school.

I just want to point out something to tyler (above me)
The bear was not named "The Prophet of Allah, Mohammed (pbuh)" the bear was named Mohammed - actually named after one of the popular boys in the class.

People in this country name their children JESUS and this is acceptable. However, what do you think the reaction would be in most elementry schools in America if a teacher were to name a teddy bear "jesus christ, son of God". Now, in America I do not think the teacher would be employed after the public outgry--CNN and Fox would have great fun taking positions on the issue. Fundamentalists and Atheists both would be up in arms for different reasons--and I'm sure enough of them would be crazy enough after the media got their hooks into the issue--that the teacher would have hide out. Why are we so different than the Sudan in this respect. Media feeding frenzy over a very stupid action by a very insensitive teacher.

I would like to point out to Tyler that, although the teacher may be reprimanded in his scenario, at no time would her life be in danger. There's your difference.
