My daughter gave blood a few weeks ago and they do test your iron level.

This is something I have never heard of before and I find it odd but my daughter said they tested her iron level from her left arm and her count was really low, they then tested her right arm, still low but not as low as her left arm! I just found that really odd that iron levels are different in each arm.

Even with low levels, they still let her give blood.

If you can pass all of the screening questions they ask, then the people running the blood drive will do a quick test to make sure you aren't too anemic to donate.

In my experience with the blood banks in several states and in the Army, they test to ensure that you have adequate iron content in your blood before they allow you to donate. The test is a simple prick on the finger and they put a drop of your blood in a small vial of liquid and based on how it sinks they determine if you have enough iron. If so they allow you to donate and if not they decline you. If that happens you should likely see a Dr.

Do it once, and if there's a problem, they will tell you. The blood bank always tests the blood it takes.
