i would think that there has to be a joint somewhere, connecting the door to the brick...maybe you could get some twisty ties and put them around the garland and push the end of the tie into the joint.

Where ever you buy Christmas tree ornaments you'll likely find the small wire replacement hooks for those ornaments. Wrap one end of the hook around the main stem of the garland, and bend the other end so that the tip of the hook almost closes on itself. Place several of these along the part of the garland that will go across the top of the door. Set each hook onto the top of each brick at the mortar joint. The tip of the hook should be pointing almost straight down into the brick if you bend it right. The weight of the garland will keep the tip of the hook embedded in the top of the brick. Let the sides dangle.
If the hooks keep pulling off or bending out straight, use more of them to better distribute the weight.
If your brick is full grout, meaning there isn't an exposed surface along the top of each brick, look for tiny cracks or holes between the mortar and the brick that you can slide the tip of the wire into, and then bend down over the face of the brick to hold the garland. Bend the tip of each hook only slightly so that you can insert it straight, but once it's in it will catch onto the sides of the crack.
If this doesn't work, use dark green duck tape and brush off any area you want to tape to really well to insure proper adhesion. I think they sell dark green duck tape this time of year in most stores that sell Christmas decorations.

At my house, we put in several key points of lead anchors. Simply, we drilled a hole in the cement work between bricks, and inserted the expanding anchor. A screw or bold can then be put into the anchor the same way a plastic molly works in wallboard. We string thin wire between the bolts and the garland is hung from or draped around the wire. At the end of the year, we remove the wire, but leave the galvanized bolts/screws in place. THey cover the lead anchor and prevent unsightly holes from being seen.
Around the top of the house, I can use plastic clips to hold the lights in place, just like any other house.

Go to the hardware store and ask if they carry brick hangers (they might also call them brick hooks or brick clips). They're little clips with hooks to hang things on, and they hang on the edges of the brick where the bricks are mortared together. They're temporary and don't damage the brick, so they're great for things like that.

maybe some window putty would work. press a blob onto the brick, place garland on blob & press another piece of putty over that. should scrape off fairly easy when time to remove--I don't think that stuff ever completely dries.
