What about steal? I suppose it would be ok if someone sleeps with your spouse since we are not under the law. I guess that is why Catholics have so many idols now because we are no longer under the law so it does not matter. What are you thoughts has the law REALLY been done away with?

Grace does not mean that we can live any way we please...
Because of Christ, we have been set free from the curse of the law.

We are not under the law, but as Paul brought out, we are still under all of the principles of those laws. Paul condemned, over and over again - ANYONE who tried to follow all the tenants of the law. At one point, he even stated that those who were trying to force circumcision on others due to the law would just go get themselves emasculated (one of Pauls funnier moments, along with his comments to the High Priest were pretty funny)

Thus, we're not stoned since we have the ransom sacrifice - but we are still under the principle of not committing murder - with punishments. The same is true of lying. As Paul stated, liars, thieves, murderers, etc and those who violate the principles that are found in the law - would not gain access to Gods kingdom.

As Jesus taught, the principles in the law endure. The actual law code does not.

The word says shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid....meaning we don't have a license to sin just because we're not under law. God despise liars and any sin of any kind, so if someone claimed to be a Christian and still committing all acts of sin, then they either have a faith problem, a flesh problem, or basically not even a Christian.

Man's law. We aren't subject to the persecution like the Catholic's biblical teachings. We aren't subject to man's law on the whole-like if someone said because we murdered or stole something we are never going to be redeemed, that's just not Bible. We are however, subject to the full law of God, and that eternally.

It is NOT OK for anyone to lie, cheat or steal, what a person throws out into the universe comes back on them ... ten fold, good, bad or indifferent.. Peace

The purpose of the law was to reveal the fact that we were sinners. That includes lying, stealing etc. Once that realization has taken hold, we then realize we need redemption--hence the need for a sacrificial lamb. Once we are washed clean, we are no longer under the bondage of sin and death. We are free. As those who live in the U.S. know, freedom is far different than license. You are free to live as you please in the pursuit of happiness. But that does not give you the license to do as you please. With freedom comes responsibility.

The core purpose of the law was prophetic. It was a plumb line to identify the perfect Lamb of God--the Messiah, when He arrived.

Now, as for Catholics and their images, there is a fine line between using it as an aid, and worshiping it as an idol. Consider the brazen serpent in the wilderness. It was initially used as an aid in the prevention of dying from the bite of the fiery asps. But later, the children of Israel burned incense before it (ref. 2 Kings 18:4). Today I see candles and incense being burned before these "statuary aids". Now what will happen if one of these statues in some way bleed? Do they say, "Oh dear, moisture has rusted the internal steel reinforcement and stained our statue." Or do they call it a miracle and burn incense to it? Today we see many Catholics flocking to places of miracles or "divine manifestations" whether it be a wall stain of the blessed virgin, or a burned cheese sandwich sold on eBay. That fine line has been crossed too many times. It starts innocently enough, but it opens the door for great error.

Here is my take on images, icons, jewelry and the like. When a father/husband has gone to war, we carry and display reminders such as bracelets and photographs. We use these things aids to remember them. However, it produces a longing, because you cannot touch, hug, or lovingly converse with them, for they are away. When they are home, there is really no such need for such aids, because he is in the back playing and laughing with the kids. If you need a hug or a word, just call.

The NEED for images and icons only proves that the Father is not home. Alive? Yes. But absent in a personal way. Faith without the need for crosses, jewelry, beads, icons, pictures, or statues proves that the Father is home and interacting in a real and personal way with their beloved. Worship with the aid of physical objects just shows the Father is not at home in your heart or church.

I just love some of these answers. Jesus himself said that he came not to abolish the law, but to fulfill it.

Yes,we are under grace, so when they walk in on them and blow them away God forgives the shooter. But Idols are not okay that is not of God.
