I'm having an arguement with a co-worker. Help me out here.
I get to work @ 7:15 and leave at 4:00. I take a 45 minute lunch break.
I say thats 8 hours. She says that's 7.5.
Who can't add? Her or Me?

7:15 to 8:00 is 45 minutes. (your lunch)
8:00 to 4:00 is 8 hours.
Besides, what is it of her business anyway. I just hope she isn't in the accounting department. LOL

The company isn't required to pay you for your lunch break. So it's 8-3/4 hours elapsed, 8 hours paid if you clock in at 7:15, out and back in for the 45 minute lunch, then out for the day at 4.

Assuming any other breaks are paid breaks, you are correct. You would be paid for 8 hrs. of work.

Explain it this way, it may make sense.... if you got to work at 7:15am and immediately took your 45 minute break, it would be as if you started work at 8am. If you worked from 8am to 4pm with no other breaks, that would be 8 hrs.
