Many of you instantly called my new god a tyrant...

Not necessarily the judeo-christian OT monster....

I'm talking here about a purely imaginary concept...

You can imagine a "perfect being" right?

No biblegod, a tangible being present in your every day life...who could solve your problems (a lot like a genie with infinite wishes)

Wouldn't that be "nice to have?"

Spiritual concierge? Sure, send one over.

EDIT

Dear personal god, I don't feel like scraping ice off my windshield, please make it warm, or change the pile of old newspapers into breakfast groceries; (Milk, bread...or donuts whichever is easiest), Amen!

Yes but my point is if such a being did exist the universe would be fundamentally different than a universe where such a being did not exist.

So are you asking do I wish I lived in a universe where all my problems were fixed for me and I could pray and 100% of my prayers were answered and bad things never happened to good people?

Then yes, I do, sounds like a nice place to live.

Yes. I very much wish pain and loss of loved ones could be eliminated. I wish humans had a moral authority that was actually moral. I wish we could have all the knowledge in the universe and eternity to absorb it. I really do. Some others that would like it are Arthur C. Clark, Issac Asimov, and Gene Roddenberry.

In my normal day-to-day imagination and fantasies, I think of a god who will grant me anything I wish for (or at least four of my favorite fantasies in my extensive wish list). But then I worry about what this god might want in return FROM ME! I suppose if all she wanted was a little worship now and then I could manage it, but anything more and I might have a problem. And also not get my fantasies realized.

Someone to solve my problems? But why would that have to be a god? What's wrong with a good friend?

Anyway, there has never been a god who has solved anyone's problems so it's completely hypothetical from everyone's point of view.

Not for me but I wouldn't knock anyone who wished it. I like being in control of my own destiny enough that the thought of even a benevolent deity does nothing for me. I like the challenge of solving my own problems because I learn from them and that is valuable to me as a person. I think something like the deity you describe would stagnate my personal growth.

Again, sure.

I'd love to have some omnipotent being that loved me and protected me and made me happy. But I can get a dog, rather than living a delusion.

How screwed up would the world be then. Everybody getting what they wished for. The world would last 5 days if that before we killed ourselves off.

Wanting a God that is fashioned after your own fancies is not much of a God at all in reality it makes you God and the maker and breaker of your own rules.

Not really. Most of the religions I see have gods that are somewhat evil. I don't see any reason to take the chance. Nobody rides for free.

I wish there was a truly benevolent God who made sure I was eternally happy and prevented all suffering, yes. Certainly that God is not the bible God. Not sure which one it is.
