While walking down the street during a visit to Chicago a woman stopped me and asked me if I'd be interested in a meditation room. Does anyone know what belief or religion this would be for?

Lots of folks meditate, it doesn't matter if you are religious or not!... It started becoming popular in this country in the late '60s when us hippies began exploring the Eastern philosophies (Hinduism/Bhuddism, etc.)...and many of mainstream society have since caught on to its benefits. I still take a few minutes every day to get grounded and centered and clear the mundane clutter from my mind. It can be very spiritual, or just simply a tool for relaxation. For me (as a Pagan) it is usually both. The woman you encountered could have been of any religion or belief system--or none at all.

Buddhism and I think Hindu's also meditate. Odd that a total stranger would ask such a thing. I have found that meditation, if preceeded by prayer, prepares a landscape in my mind wherein I can not only offer my thoughts to God but receive from Him as well. I think most Christian's prayers are something like, "thank you, thank you, thank you, please, please, please, amen". within meditation the mind becomes quiet and the answers to prayers can be received.

Quite a few New Age religions have those. Buddhism would be another.

Perhaps it's no particular religion at all...maybe not even 'spirituality'...there's just not enough here for me to even guess.
