I am curious regarding a particular sitting position I have got into the habit of...

When I sit on my couch I sit with my feet up on a foot rest in front of my couch, thus when sitting my full leg is at 90 degrees from hip to toe in relation to my torso.

The question is, is this bad for the muscles around my knees, or my knees in isolation regardless of the muscles and would it be better to sit with my thighs at 90 degrees to my torso and my legs below my knees parallel to my torso?

Thanks.

I just had a Occupational Therapist measure me up for a wheel chair and this is not the correct sitting position. Likewise last year I was measured for a normal arm chair and this was not the correct sitting position. It is important that everything is kept within degrees, so right angles. Hips to knees straight out, knee to foot straight down, thereby the spine is aligned, which will prevent back problems. Moreover, their are special measurements for normal arm chairs, too low and OUCH back problems, too high and OUCH back problems, as you strain sitting down or getting up. You need to be measured, knee to hip and hip to hip, then knee to floor. Then you can go in search of a chair, dinning room, sitting room, office. Good Luck

NOT the correct sitting position, however, depending on your age, our body will do whats most comfortable. As we grow older it tells us more. I remember coming home and finding my sister sprawled all over the furniture, guess I did it too. But we all turned out fine. Now, when at home, the most comfortable position seems to be in my chair with my feet up on the coffee table.

you will know when an ache occurs. That tells you to change position. If you are comfortable, all is well.
