I have a relative in my family who has been charged with about 22 charges of police corruption - one of them involved planning a kidnap for exhortion.
Of course, they have been stood down in the force.
They havn't been sentenced as yet.
This is my concern.
My family treat this person normally as though he has done no wrong. Of course, I know we all do wrong, but I am very wary of him and feel as though he is a bad example of how an Officer in the force should be.
As a result, me and my family have distanced ourselves from him and we have been told that we are the bad guys and to just accept him and get on with life.
It's very hard knowing that he was involved in assisting a pedophille get off.
What do you think?
Do you think we should just carry on as normal and pretend he did no wrong?

What you think and how you feel are not important. The facts (as you have stated them) do not show that he did anything wrong. Once the investigation is complete, if he is found guilty, he should be held at a distance from the family, or at least those family members who are too young to understand that he is not a good role model.
On the other hand, if he is found not guilty you and your family will have to make some serious apologies, and even if he forgives you, he will never forget that you chose to doubt his honesty and integrity and ostracized him when he most needed the support of his family and friends.
He is presumed innocent until proven guilty, just like all the rest of us. The rest of his family understands that.

Because charges are pending, technically he is innocent until proven guilty. However, in your heart you must have some feelings about this whole mess, and if they differ from the rest of the family, then don't let them talk you into feeling or thinking differently. It may cause some hurt at first, but stand your ground.

That's nice to know. I hope he feels accomplished. I wouldn't distance myself from him because my presence would be a huge impact on his guilt. If I was the judge that would sentence such disease I would make sure he wears his badge while he is serving his time in prison. This way all the inmates can take turns on him.

Do what YOU think is best. Don't let others opinions affect yours.
