And how would you specify "dumb"...what is dumb to you isnt dumb to another. But even that aside, religion is passed on, despite its content.
The majority of the religious are born into their religion and stay with it and when they reproduce, they reproduce their own inherited religion.
There are those who break away; they may convert to another religion or become atheist or agnostic.
And there are some families who are atheist and raise their children as such...the children have the same options as their religious counterparts: reproduce the belief system or break away.

And by the way, if you meant to imply that perhaps a person learns themselves that their religion has too many negatives and would they still pass it on then its a bit contradictory.
If you disliked it enough to not want to pass it on, you probably wouldnt still be a follower.
If you were still a devout follower then chances are you havent been exposed to the negatives or its "dumbness" and thus you will pass it on.

This isn't a fair question at all. If the parents gave a religion to someone, I doubt the person thinks the religion is stupid. Some people do, but the people that would be most likely to pass a religion down don't see the religion as "stupid."

You mean you feel the religion is dumb and you accepted it? or should i rephrase it as 'so you were dumb enough to accept it without any questions , doubts that is to say no research done?'
I would say if i were you i'd find out more about different religions and accept the one i get really convinced and comfortable with.it doesnt matter what your parents passed on to you.it will be your journey of discovering what your feel is right to believe and self discovery too. and ofcourse you pass 'this' religion to your child which you feel is the right one.
well i'm sorry if i was a bit rude but we have libraries, we have internet...if you dont believe in something you could go on to seek the truth out there. Believe me you'll have true peace of mind then.

That's generally how religions survive. If parents were forbidden from giving their children any religious indoctrination until the age of 18, we'd all be atheists within a generation.

My mother indoctrinated me, but it didn't "take". I became an atheist quite late in life, but when my kids were born I had never said a word to them about religion, ever. They're both atheists, very happy and well-adjusted, much more so than I was at their age. I'm very glad I didn't pass on all that nonsense to them.

No my parents dubbed me a christian and I shrugged that label off when I was 12. I am letting my son choose whether or not he wants to follow a religion and let him pick which one it is he wants to follow.

No. Lucky my parents broke away from the church and raised me on smart spirituality.

YOU CAN’T HAUL IT BEHIND YOU IN A HEARSE

What will become of us, if we set our affections on this earth ,

Think of it visually this way, when you die and face God, it will just be you naked and your heart. Will you be glad to be in His presence as you are right at this moment, as if you died right now ??? If not, you might want to “get right with God.”
YOU CAN’T HAUL IT BEHIND YOU IN A HEARSE, so what is your priority in this life ??? Make a list right now and show it to God and talk to Him about it . You might find He has new things to put at the top of your list…………….
