i covered the whole canvas in a really light wash in a lemony yellow color but before that i already started painting a flower and made a mistake, so i went over the mistake in white acrylic. now the wash wont go over it.. shud i paint the whole thing in lemoney yellow using acrylic instead of a wash? i actually liked my background white but my teacher sez its too stark so i hav to comply... please help!

There are no "mistakes" in art. Don't be too attached to what you think the finished product should look like. Art is about the process.
Work with the white flower in the background and incorporate it into the painting. I think you'll be pleased in the end.

A final note, once acrylic's dry, it's usually very easy to cover up previous layers. If you really wanna start fresh, let it all dry completely and apply a thick layer of white gesso over the entire canvas. Then once that's dried completely start again.

But I really think your best bet is to keep going with your white flower and yellow wash and see where it ends up!

Some very dense pigments will "float" to the surface. Cadmium red is one, if the brand is cheap. You can paint oil on top of acrylic but not the other way around. Try to make the same color of the wash but opaquely applied. It should cover the underpainting.
