When a person asks me that question, I take it as a code for "Are you a practicing Christian. No? You will burn in hell for Eternity".
I am DEFINITLY turned off to a persons religion that asks me that question. I don't go around asking people questions about their spirituality until we have established a bit of trust between us, and even then it could be shaky ground. There are very few Christians who would accept the fact that I'm a witch and remain friends without trying to convert me.
In my experience, people who ask me where I will be spending Eternity are ususally fanatical Christians who are completely closed off to the idea that there are other spiritual paths besides theirs.

I am further turned off, and annoyed that this person walks around all day getting off on the idea that he is "saved" and others are doomed to burn in Hell. That disgusts me. It's fear-based faith, and to question someone about their fate in the afterlife is fear-mongering.
I won't spend "eternity" anywhere. I have about sixty more years to live, if I'm lucky, and then I will cease to exist. That's the truth, and that's what I tell people who pretend to be concerned about the state of my (non-existent) soul.

well larry, i feel that i can not answer that question. I often question my faith and am concerned about my whereabouts after death. I do bad things that could condemn me to hell but at the same time i like to believe that god is on my side for the most part and so on.

I know where I am going to spend eternity, in a place where God is forgiving of all of my mistakes and where I can live with all of those I love and care for. Some people call it Heaven.
but i don't like people asking such an intruding question...

That really burns my pointed little tail!
Seriously, I get tired of telling people to go fuckthemselves.
(not really)
But, I do get tired of being bothered by delusional idiots for the TRILLIONTH time.
Isn't there anything better you could find to do with your 75 years?
What a waste...
ADDED:
I don't even put money in the salvation army pot outside the mall anymore because I'm sick of hearing "god bless you" every time. I always respond "I don't believe in your god".
I don't think any of us should be shy about either of those responses...

yes i think it is a guilt trip, emotional blackmail of your family and tricking you into your religion as, when hell was evented, at the slope of Cristianitys popularity. but other interpretations by theists seem a little less gruesome.

Hubris. That question comes from an arrogant point of view. How dare someone assume that I "need" to be saved.

I get annoyed. My plans for eternity are mine alone. Besides, how many people in America don't know about Christianity already? It's not like they are introducing new information.

It's the best tactic somebody can use if they WANT to drive me further away from their religion.
