Scientists thought the same thing. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

This is a good question - and I will answer it sensibly, even though you were unkind about my boyfriend a minute ago.
The bible was written by extremely primitive people who were trying to explain their existence in a universe that they had absolutely no hope of understanding. Actually, they weren't even aware there was such a thing as a universe.
The big question for me is why on earth anyone in their right minds would continue to believe all that drivel. As you say, scientific knowledge has shown us that the Earth is not flat - so why can't the idea of Adam and Eve, 7-day creation etc etc also be abandoned - cos it's all patently crap?!
Believers believe because they want to, it fills a gap for them - logic and reasoning have no place in that.
PEOPLE: He hasn't said that the bible says the earth is flat - just that the people who wrote it would have thought that, which is perfectly true. Typical Answers idiocy - read the question first!

The writers of the bible did not say the earth was flat in fact the bible book of Isiah refers to "the circle of the earth" bearing in mind that the bible was written 4000+ years ago which is over 3000 years before Christopher Columbus proved that the earth was not flat the bible obviously was and still is far more advanced than modern science or human thinking

Where does it say the earth is flat? Have you read through the whole Bible. There are thousands of references to the authority of the Bible. Read it with reverence asking the truths to be revealed to you and you may not be commenting the way you are doing now. Cheer up, believing or not believing is your choise.

The Bible was written by 40 different authors over a period of 2,500 years. They didn't all believe the world was flat. eg. In Isaiah, written 750 years BC it says that 'God sits above the CIRCLE of the earth'.
During Egyptian times they did brain surgery so they weren't all living in caves on a 'flat earth'.
Hope this helps:)

Believe what you want. At one point people didn't believe that you would be able to pick up a phone and call another country..... none the less from a portable device. With knowledge comes change. It doesn't mean that it's not true.

Emphasis on "unenlightened"... Christianity would have been vastly different had they held off until the Enlightenment... it probably would have been a bearable religion if they had just waited...

"Do YOU people not know? Do YOU not hear? Has it not been told to YOU from the outset? Have YOU not applied understanding from the foundations of the earth? There is One who is dwelling above the circle of the earth."
Isaiah 40 v 21, 22
So your information is incorrect.
