Kids need encouragement also. Your next child will probably start much faster in an effort to chase the other kids around. But the child will learn to walk faster with help. Just keep working on it a little every day if you want them to walk. However believe me you should be happy the child isnt walking yet and less to worry about, cause once they start walking then you will have something to worry about LOL. They will be into everything and going everywhere they can. The falls, the accidents, the sharp edges, the stairs, etc.

He could just be developing later...the twins I watch didn't even crawl at 12 months and didn't walk until 18+ months. Not because they didn't want to but because they couldn't. I would try to encourage him to stand up holding on to things or hold his hands allowing him to walk with you. This will give him strength in his legs and teach him to balance. He may also not be walking if he is carried (overly>>>>) a lot. I mean for no reason, except to carry him. I have seen this happen too. Parents and others feel that because they are little that they should be held all the time. And don't get me wrong they are babies and they should be held but, they need time on the floor to learn and discover how to get toys or move to something by themselves. He'll get it soon- don't worry! As soon as he is walking your going to wish that he wasn't! lol

Some kids just walk later than others. If you observe him using legs and arms and moving well at his crawling, I would advise you to try and relax. He may walk before the doctor's back! My daughter used to stand at a table and let go for a while before she took the first steps. If he hasnt walked by the 20th, address your concerns then with the doctor.

As mentioned, children develop at different rates. Most likely in time he will walk and be in everything driving you nuts. What I do is work with the child. When holding them as a baby I will try to let them test their legs by holding them up and letting them push. My niece came for Thanksgiving and her baby boy not a good 2 months old and already he can almost stand on his own weight. I not say he keep his balance. But, I can wrap my arms around him and keep him up until he get tired and I let him down. We let him grab our fingers and pull him up. This all help build the muscles and it does take careful interaction. Got to watch the head and neck. We not force a rapid development just help him do what he already learning to do. When he walks then that be when he does! Maybe he be 2 years old before he does this, maybe he be 8 months. But, we just offer the interaction to help him develop at his own pace.

Some babies just develop slower than other babies. Try holding his hands above his head and letting him try to walk. Or put your arms lightly around his waist so you are barely touching him and let him try to walk that way. Does he hold onto things and walk? Like if he holds onto the couch can he walk that way? If so, that's a good start.

"very worried??" Why? Babies learn at different paces. Relax, the average age is 13.5 months, so that means some start at 18 months and some start at 10 months, so just try to practice with him and he'll eventually learn.

all children are different and some develop quicker than others. since you are concerned, you should make an appt with your pediatrician. if he is not available, ask the office who is covering for your pediatrician. never be afraid to openly discuss any concern with your doctor. find a doctor you trust. remember, you are your childs advocate!
