It is not with the intent of posing this question for you to be defensive and voice your scorn at me. I have no bad feelings toward you as I believe we all must make our choices in life.
As a Christian I don't take everything in bible teaching as literal and certainly do not agree with the ungodly concept of such a place as Hellfire. I myself have been judged as unChristian because I have challenged such a literal place. It doesn't bother me.
Why does it bother some here when someone says that if you are not a Christian you will be sent to 'hell' and tormented?
If you don't believe such a literal place exists then why even get defensive when someone makes this unkind judgement?

Yes I agree that telling this to children is really sick.
I didn't mean to offend anyone by implying "all hate" but I do know many do detest all who claim to be Christian because of this doctrine.

How can you be damned to "hell" if this doesn't exist. Why does it bother you.

I don't hate ANYONE!
I, however, do not like being insulted by someone that just doesn't understand where I am coming from. I understand christians, I was one for 27 years. Though I think many of them don't truly understand what they are following, they definitly don't understand me.

I don't recall ever having said "I hate Christians."
Recently there was a question about whether I resented being wished a "Merry Christmas" by Christians. I responded by saying that I regarded such things as a pleasant expression of good wishes. I enjoy hearing "Merry Christmas" because I believe the person saying it wants me to have a pleasant time during the holidays.
When someone tells me that I'm going to Hell, I suspect that the person saying it does not wish me well. I don't believe in Hell, but the underlying concept of one person condemning another is rather unpleasant, don't you think?

I for one have not got faith in hellfire torment for the reason that's not what the Bible particularly teaches. It says that the lifeless are sound asleep until eventually the resurrection whilst they are going to pop out of hell, that's the grave. examine (Revelation 20:13) So not one is in hell without end and that they don't seem to be suffering mutually as they are there. And definite a parable is a narrative and to not be taken actually.

Why do I get defensive when a Christian bigot condemns me to an eternity of torture? ...because it's ugly hate-speech, pure and simple. Why do black people become angry when a racist uses the N-word? Why do patriots become angry when someone defiles the flag?
Just because superstitious beliefs are printed in an ancient book, does not excuse spewing that kind of vile hatred in public. Do you suppose you'd become angry if I proposed that, for the sake of my own bigoted views, all Christians should be systematically exterminated, by the most painful means possible? Piously condemning non-believers to Hell is little different. The fact that atheists know Hell is imaginary, does not excuse the evil that bigoted Christians wish upon us. NOW do you get it?

I am not an atheist.
I see a Christians who claims to know who is going to "hell" as a typical (in my estimation) Christian. The bible is used as justification to spread hate, bigotry, and ignorance.
I need to say that not all Christians are about hate, some actually follow the teachings of Jesus and not the nonsense of Paul.

My problem with it is the joy and triumph that some Christians exhibit when they tell people they're going to Hell. It seems contradictory to me that a "good Christian" would find any kind of pleasure in the eternal damnation and torture of a fellow human being. I don't believe in the place in any literal sense, but I do believe that there are people who feel self-righteous in telling others that they're headed that way.

I hate christians? I thought only religious types hated people for their beliefs? Oh well...
I don't really hate christians, they mostly just annoy me slightly. It's like a mosquito in the room; you try to ignore it, but the constant whining sound makes you want to slap it to death eventually.
Hell is in itself an amusing construct, and to be honest, if I was inclined to believe in it, I'd be doing a lot more sinning to avoid the possibility of the alternative.
Stupidity in general irks me... well, to be precise, not just stupidity (you can't help it) but... what's the word for people who refuse to learn new things?
And I definately hate the "Because I say so" attitude, but that applies to everyone, not just Jebus worshippers.
So in my case, I'd have to say that most christians (here) seem to fall in my "hateable people" category. I think it's because the personality traits I can't stand tend to be the same ones that lead a person to religious beliefs, or certain political views.

We don't hate christians but it gets kinda annoying already that we don't believe on hell. Perhaps we should start condemning them to Mordor or a pool of melting magma.
I also agree with asourapple, as a raised catholic I know first hand the damages of scaring a child with hell. It is truly psychological damage.

It doesn't bother you when some one tells you that you are going to be sent to the hell? How about if I come up to you on the street and try to convert you to worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster?
And no, I don't recall any answers saying that atheist hate Christians, and many answers where atheists explicitly say that they don't.

I don't know of any atheists who hate christians, likewise I don't know of any atheists who get defensive when damned to hell.
We don't believe in hell,we consider this nothing more than an empty threat. The only reason somebody might bite is that it gets a bit repetitive and irritating sometimes
