Eid al-Adha (Arabic: عيد الأضحى ‘Īd al-’Aḍḥā) is a religious festival celebrated by Muslims worldwide as a commemoration of Ibrahim's (Abraham's) willingness to sacrifice his son Ismael for Allah, but a voice from heaven allows Ibrahim to sacrifice a goat instead. It is one of two Eid festivals that Muslims celebrate. Like Eid ul-Fitr, Eid ul-Adha also begins with a short prayer followed by a sermon (khuṭba).

Eid al-Adha is 4 days long and starts on the 10th day of the month of Dhul Hijja (ذو الحجة) of the lunar Islamic calendar. This is the day after the pilgrims in Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia by Muslims worldwide, descend from Mount Arafat. It happens to be approximately 70 days after the end of the month of Ramadan.

Remember the bible story about God asking Abraham to kill his son and then apparently changing his mind and allowing him to sacrifice some other animal. Muslims believe in that too but they think it was Ismael that Abraham nearly gutted whereas the Judeo-Christian tradition is that it was Isaac, and they sacrifice animals, as Abraham eventually did. Who said God doesn't have a sense of humour? At the Hajj, when undertaken at the traditional time, it is a festive time towards the end of the pilgrimmage.

It is a four day long celebration following the Hajj commemorating Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son to Allah/God/ Yahweh. It's about two and a half months after the end of Ramadan. Muslims try to wear new, or very clean clothes, and go to sermon on that day.

Eid al-Adha is a Moslem feast to commorate Porphet Ibrahim rotal obedience to God to sacrifice his son Ishmael as commanded by God to test him. At the moment a ram appeared at the Bushes and Ishmael was spared/
Eid al-Adha is also for distribution of food meat for hungry poor Moslems.

From theological point of view Moslems sacrifice a lamb in Contrast to Christianity where God did not spare his son Jesus from being sacrificed, and unlike Ibrahim when his son was spared from being sacrificed. According to the Bible Jesus asking God why you sacrificed me? and Jesus is the lamb of God. So each religion has its own lamb! Further more Islam by celebrating Eid al Adha sends a message that rejects the idea that Jesus is the lamb but in Islam it is the actual lamb.

Eidul Azha - The festival of Sacrifice.

On the Command of God Abraham left his wife Hagar and only son Ishmael in the valley of Mecca where lies Kaaba today. Hagar asked why are you going leaving us alone here where no one else is. Abraham said, God has commanded me to do so and He knows best. Then Hagar said, if God has commanded you, then God certainly will protect and care for us. After Abraham left, Ishmael an infant started crying from thirst. Hagar laid him on ground where well of Zam Zam is near Kaaba. She rain on the top of hill (Safa) and looked around to find any human or animal. She didn't see any one. Then she ran to the top of another hill (Marwa) and didn't see any one. Then came back to check her son. . She ran seven times between the hills Safa and Marwa and when came back to check her son, She saw water coming out of ground near the feet of Ishmael. Allah had opened a spring of water for them. This spring still gives water today. Because of water travellers started stopping here and she lived with her son and worshipped God there. Abraham lived in Palestine with his other wife Sara. He visited Hagar and son Ismael every year or two. When Ishmael was 13 years old, Abraham saw in a dream that he was sacrificing his son Ismael. Dreams of Prophets are true. He came and told the dream to his son Ishamel. Ismael replied, My father do what you have been commanded to, you will find be patience. God later made Ishmael his Prophet when he became a man. Abraham blind folded himself so doesn't change his mind and disobey God. Right at the moment when Abraham was about to cut the throat of his son, Angel Gabriel stopped him and said God has accepted your sacrifice, here is a sheep God sent for you to sacrifice instead.
Then God commanded Abraham to rebuild the Kaaba. Angel Gabriel showed up the original foundation where Adam had built it first time. Over the years flash flood had destroyed the Kaaba. Abraham rebuilt the Kaaba with the help of his son Ishmael. Then God commanded him to make a call in the valley to come and perform Haj and to worship God around Kaaba. Abraham said , O God there is no one here to call to. God said, I shall make your call reach to distant places and they will come. Abraham and his son with Angels performed first Haj making seven anti clock rounds around Kaaba and kept making specail Haj supplications to God.

Muslims from all over the world come to perform HAJ of Kaaba in the House of God and do sacrifice an animal in the name of God to give meat to poors so they can also enjoy the Eidul Azha.

May God make us His obedient servants like Abraham was.
