I did it last Christmas as felt like a "MAC Whiz" in 3 days. I installed NeoOffice, to replace M$-Office, Firefox to replace IE and VLC to replace WMP, all free on OS X. It feels like a PC.
Others have said Apple systems cost more than PCs. I guarantee, if you compare similar hardware and the cost of software, MACs and PCs are within 10% of each other. And Macs are malware free, and they can run Windows.
The most challenging part of learning OS X was how easy it was. For example, to remove any program, just drag it to the trash!!!.

I'm going through the same process - I am a little wary of switching to Leopard right now and will wait till some of the teething problems have been sorted out. You can look forward to Safari browser and iChat for starters.... If you are interested, there's a great book called Switching to the Mac aimed specifically at Windows users - it's packed with advice and tips

As far as ease of use goes, the switch is painless. Macs are very intuitive...although, I would encourage you to find a Mac Geek to show you all of the neat tricks...
My wife switched to a mac after Vista came out and she needed a new laptop. She loves it and will never go back. Most of her files were seemlessly integrated (although, some might have a hiccup or two..).
You will have to purchase Office for the Mac seperately, which is a pain to say the least...but compared to vista, it's worth it.

The sheer BEAUTY of any MAC, is the EASE of which doing anything is!!! They are totally user friendly, and it is almost impossible to screw one up so bad you cannot retrieve whatever it is you may have lost.
I FOUGHT buying ANY type of computer for years - finally, I was talked in to the MAC because of its ease of use AND the graphics (I do alot of artwork designing) In the 20+ years of owning MACS, I have NEVER had a meltdown, a serious crash, and have never lost info I could not find again.
I would NEVER ever buy a PC of any kind -
Once you have gone MAC, you will NEVER go back!!!
It will take you maybe a few HOURS - not WEEKS!! MACS are our friends - PC's are our enemies.

The switch is pretty painless. I just helped my grandson make that switch and he LOVES the Mac.
Also keep in mind that the new Macs -- the ones that use the INTEL chip -- can run both Mac and Windows software. So you don't have to make an initial big investment in new software.

go for it.
we switched from a pc to a mac and will never look back.
most files will transfer seamlessly.
go to an apple store and ask questions about making a switch.
they'll definitely help you out.
i couldn't imagine working on a pc ever again!

ABSOLUTLY NOT!!! Macs are horrid, less programs, support, and fixing them if they break is a b!tch. Apple overprices their computers. Why get something that is overpriced if you can get something just as good with Windows?
