Put the policy under the oldest living direct family member you have either your mother or grandmother/father. and then no matter what unless theive been found at fault more than once you should only be paying maybe 60dollars a month.
my mother had her liscense for 34 yrs now and only 1 accident and when my older sister went on under her policey it was only54dollars a month. my friends mom had her license 23 yrs no accidents he only pays 60. a month. thats the cheapest way. other then that their is no cheap way to insure a car as a 17yr old male. youll be paying 120.00 a month minimum for even a piece of crap.

Insurance rates are controlled by the State that you live in and the insurance companies that are licensed to sell insurance in your State. With you being only 17, you're at the high end of the rate chart as it has been my experience that within 18 months of you getting your drivers license, you will have an accident. We just had a 16 year old killed in an auto accident yesterday, and left his passenger (his girlfriend) paralyzed from the neck down....driving a 2006 VW.
You need to contact a local independent agent and ask them. Just look in your local phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you will find a professional agent there that can help you with your needs. They will normally have over a dozen different insurance companies and might even have some that specialize in younger drivers.
Typically it would be less expensive to be insured on your parent(s)' policy as you are under 18 and cannot sign a contract any way.
Someone mentioned a KIA....I would stay away from them as I have never paid a claim on one of them that WASN'T a total loss! Blow the airbags out and the insurance company will basically total it out....
Good luck and drive RESPONSIBLY! I hope this helps!

The smaller the car the less expensive the insurance. If you cat has a 1400cc engine it will cost more the say a 1000cc If your car is very old consider 3rd party because you may find that the amount you get in the case of a write off would be less then the premium

SEVENTEEN?.... you're still a kid!!! (have you had your first shave yet). Seriously , there is no cheap insurance to drive a motor in the UK at 17. Your signature on your licence is still wet. Unless you can talk your parents to add you to their insurance. The only thing about that , you cannot drive your own car on their insurance.
