felix: My reason for asking this question is that in my last question, where I asked why it's bad that I'm not comfortable with the idea of worship, one person suggested that it possibly made me narcissistic.

Hi....

'Do you think that people who don't want to worship anything/anyone are narcissistic?'

NO!!

Actually, i believe that the religious are more narcissistic, because it is 'they' that believe, that they're that special and different from the rest of the animals, that 'they' will somehow live forever!!

This may come from 'their' belief that 'god' made man in his own image.....
When it is actually, the other way round!!!

Sure why not? Works for me.

Seriously though- I know Christians who are Narcissistic. And what about Islamic extremists- if they aren't Narcissists, then I don't know who is.

No I don't think that being Atheist makes a person a narcissist.

No. Just because someone has the inner strength to act in a decent manner without the fear of some punishment by some higher being, doesn't make them narcissistic it makes them a strong minded and self disciplined person.

Not if you know the true definition of Narcissitic it doesn't. It is having no compassion for anything or anyone. It it in the same cluster in the DSM as Anti-social personality disorder (formoally know as and Sociopath). It's being ambivilant to anyone and using them to your own means, regardless of the consequence to that person.
I don't think you fit into that at all.

Well, then they wouldn't be narcissistic now would they? lol. I mean, if they don't worship themselves, which is "anyone," then they are not narcissistic. Thus you cannot be a non worshiping narcissist. Even if it is only yourself. lol

I thought the classic theist line here is "everybody has to worship something". Typical lack of empathy and ability to see through the other's eyes, instead assuming everyone is like them.

I used to be sickeningly narcissistic.....not anymore, but I can safely say that I don't worship anyone/anything.

Nope. Narcissists have to love themselves. You could just not love anything.
