My son is 14 months old and I am taking him to see Santa Claus tomorrow. He's usually really good with strangers, but I don't know how he'll react to Santa. Does any one have any ideas or suggestions so I can get a good picture?

I will be taking this role tomorrow in my home town in the UK. After some years' experience, may I offer the following. Approach Santa fairly slowly, so that your little one has time to get used to this strange apparition. By all means sit with him on Santa's knee if Santa is Ok with that, then try sitting him on Santa's knee while you stay close. If possible, is there anyone else who can take the pic? I have to say that it is totally impossible to predict what will happen. I've had small children take one look at me and run and hide, or even burst into tears, while others of similar age and younger have sat in my arms or on my knee with absolutely no problem. Hope it all works out for you.

Don't be surprised if he panics and cries. Def don't insist he sit on Santa's knee if he's not keen. It can be quite traumatic for a little dot like that to be faced with some great hairy bloke exuding forced jolliness. Get someone else to take the pic so he can hold tight to your hand. Actually, I'd wait till he was bigger.

Oh, and watch out for the crappy toy they give him. It'll probably be some cheap rubbish that says not suitable under 3 (or even 5!) years.

my daughter cried for all of them. I just took the picture quick and than rescued her, lol. she is 8 and is very confident, but still doesnt' like mascots or people dressed up in cartoons. She screamed and so we never really got into it.

OH, one tip. Well yours is a boy, but one picture she was wearing pink and it really clashed with the red Santa suit. Wear something that matches. And not red because that will blend in and be a confusing picture.

Try sitting on his lap with your son so he can see Mommy doing it to, and then move away for the picture. This might help, if he sees you doing it, he might feel better about it.
