since last winter. Now with the cold weather I would like to bring him back inside. Will he have fleas on him or will they be dead because of being outside in the weather? I dont have fleas in my home now and would really like not to drag them in. And bathing this cat is not an option... Hes mean.

Go to your vet and get a flea killer. You will only have to use it once and your cat and house will be flea free. I like Advantage.

well, if he has been living out side he will mostlikely have fleas......There are a couple of ways to address this, you can stop by the vet for flea control to put on the cat, frontline, Advantage or Revolution all work great. Then ask if they carry a product called Capstar. It is a tablet that you give your pet, it will kill all fleas in roughly 6 hours.....it does not kill any new fleas that jump on the cat, just the ones on board when the medication is given. You could then bring the cat in the house with out fear of bringing a flea infestation with him. After applying the topical flea treatment, I would wait a couple of days before bringing him in and then give him a bath or bring him to a groomer and let them work with him.....bathing a cat is not fun, I know. Fleas don't die when cold weather arrives, they meerly become dormant til the lovely weather returns.

It's OK, you don't need to bath the cat. Bathing is not a useful way to get rid of fleas on any animal.

It's very likely the cat will have fleas. Fleas can also quite happily overwinter in your home, so I suggest you treat your house as well as the cat.

Please get your flea treatments from a vet, not a pet store, since pet store treatments are generally useless, and occasionally harmful. Get some Frontline, Advantage or Revolution for your cat - these are very effective spot-ons that will negate the need for any baths or anything else rubbish!

Go out and buy a flea control like Advantage or Frontline..it usually takes 24 hours to kill all the fleas so he should be able to come into the house the next day. Bathing is NOT a solution to killing fleas..it only stresses you and the cat. Flea shampoos do NOTHING for killing flea eggs, and usually does not even kill all the fleas on the cat at the time..you need a LONG term control like the above mentioned products.

Watch out what you use on a cat to kill fleas. It's so easy to poison them with powders and stuff. As far as I know, as of now, there's no way to safely "flea dip" a cat so don't do that. Go to a vet for a flea shampoo and get some advantage to put on it's neck once a month. When it gets warm again and want him to go out, and don't want to use the expensive monthly treatments you could try a flea collar. They work better than nothing at all!

Just get a topical flea treatment (Frontline, advantage, etc) from your vet, put it on the cat before you bring him in, if he has fleas, they'll die off, if not, it's not going to hurt him to get a treatment.

fleas do not die because they stay warm from the body heat. the best way is to ask the vet. if you don't have the money to afford one get some flea powder and treat him anyway it can't hurt.
