How do you feel about people "praying" to or holding pictures or statues of the Virgin Mary. Maybe even celebrating certain dates as Holidays that pertain to her life?

there is nothing wrong with incorporating feminine divinity into a belief system, especially one traditionally unbalanced in masculine imagery.

I have no deep feelings about it, one way or the other. My wife is Catholic and prays the rosary and to certain Catholic saints. I leave her be because I respect her feelings about her faith. I'm happy enough that she's not devout nor a fanatic and doesn't care to go to Sunday masses. The best part is that she doesn't try to "convert" me. Religion is at the very bottom of what is important in our relationship.

I would suggest that gathering information for a research paper in this forum may not be the best course of action. Your question is rather vague and open to several interpretations. You might receive answers that are, in your view, unresponsive to the question.

The sample you gather here, however large, may not be statistically valid.

People have the right to believe in what they want. In some churches they have Jesus on a cross and people pray to that. I know according to the bible it says not to worship idols but it also says alot of other things so who is right? If it makes people feel good then who is to tell them not to.

Mary sang out, "My soul does magnify the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God MY SAVIOR, for He who is mighty has done great things, and holy is His Name."

Note two things:
First, Mary needs a savior just like everyone else.
Second, Mary redirects all praise back to God.

When Jesus turned the water into wine, all Mary said was "Whatever he (Jesus) tells you to do, do it." In other words, Mary said to obey Jesus.

It's all about God, it's all about Jesus, even Mary said so.

To make Mary into something other than what she is ("the handmaid of the Lord") is rediculous, at best.

I don't understand the meaning of Mary... I mean I know she was Jesus' mom, but why do people worship her and not Jesus?? I'm confused about that. I don't like the idea.

Its fine.

If you are going to believe that God impregnated her without her consent, and that she had to watch as her son was murdered without any help from God, then you might as well give her all the credit she deserves.

I look down on it, because Mary isn't going to save you from your sins. She was only human.
