The teacher in Sudan asked the students to vote to name the teddy bear. The students picked the name, not the teacher. So the students are the ones that named the teddy bear "mohammed" right? Shouldn't the students all be executed?
Seems fair.

Hasn't she just got 15 days in gaol including time served (5 days)? Islam is not a thing which requires things. Some Muslims require some things. There's a big difference. The way some anti-abortion 'Christians' think murder should be the punishment for performing legal abortions or being somehow related to people who perform legal abortions.

Just to add to that, apparently the judge has said that she is free to leave gaol as soon as she is able to organise a Sudanese exit visa. That's a pretty fair attitude, really, don't we think? And I'm speaking as a fundamentalist atheist. It's a question of a law, however bad, being the law in a country, however sorry we may feel for the woman caught up in this unfortunate thing.

I have not read or watched the news for a few days. What is this about? Surely no faith would kill because some one named a toy with the name of a significant prophet. Look at Christianity many have ridiculed and mocked the name of God made fun of CHRISt but his followers do not seek the death penalty for the person. Middle Ages is what this reminds me of for someone to be harmed for such a thing is ignorant. This makes it appear to the world that fear is the champion of Islam. They keep members by fear. If children named the bear Mohammed to the children this was a high honor.

No the students should not be punished. She is the teacher (adult) in the classroom that allowed it. I do not agree with this sect of hardline Islam. However, it is their law, and we must respect that. She should have been aware of these ridiculous laws.

I'm sure that the British government will intervene and do some deal-making to free her. I would hope that America would bail me out if I did something ignorant over there.

Islam does not require these things, however cultures and governments who take things to the extreme may. I am Muslim and can understand both sides of this situation BUT I tend to think this woman and her students named the bear out of love and respect for the Prophet, and NOT to mock him.

This whole incident just goes to show the barbarity of the Moslem culture as governed by Sharia Law, regardless of the punishment she is sentenced to, whether it be jail, flogging or death.

I know a lot of people from the Middle East who are named Mohammed. Should their parents be executed for "insulting the prophet?"

I think I'll name my next dog "Mohammed."

Perspective and the maturity of the culture involved are key in this instance. Ask yourself what would be the answer if this were 2075 in the year of our lord?

If people can get capital punishment over the name of an inanimate object, nothing in Islam is fair.
