I have been frequently told that the actions of a select few muslims make the rest of Islam look bad. This doesn't sound like a select few to me, it sounds like the rank and file. . . How do you rationalize this?

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) - Thousands of Sudanese, many armed with clubs and knives, rallied Friday in a central square and demanded the execution of a British teacher convicted of insulting Islam for allowing her students to name a teddy bear "Muhammad."

The protesters streamed out of mosques after Friday sermons, as pickup trucks with loudspeakers blared messages against Gillian Gibbons, the teacher who was sentenced Thursday to 15 days in prison and deportation.

They massed in central Martyrs Square, outside the presidential palace, where hundreds of riot police were deployed, although they did not attempt to stop the rally.

They called for Gibbons' execution, saying, "No tolerance: Execution," and "Kill her, kill her by firing squad."

Q: In the west, Jesus is insulted every day. There was even an art exhibit a few years back that had a crucifix soaked in urine. We accept this for what it is. Christ died a humiliating death of the lowest criminal, nailed naked to a cross. How can we justify a riot in defense of him when he accepted such humiliation to teach us how to love?

Ahmad, Your peace is the peace of the grave. Submit, or die. Islam cannot tolerate other beliefs. Why? Because a lie cannot exist in the presence of truth.

Lolo A: I am not searching at all. It's inmy face, on the top of the headlines. It's the leading story of every news show on the radio. I would love to let Mulims live and let live, yet they will not extend the same courtesy to me.

I have similar theological disagreements with Buddhists, Bahai, Hindus, Zoroastrians, Shintos, Wiccans, Mormons and atheists. The difference is that these others are civil, and don't seek to kill me if I disagree with them.

Would this episode have been a great chance to quietly educate this teacher and her students? Might not a quiet talk with her and explaining how offensive it is to some have been more appropriate?

But instead these idiots have drawn attention to the ridiculous, and the result is that my neighbor lady has a pot-bellied pig for a pet that she has renamed Mohammad. Is this the result that was intended?

Sura (4:34) - "As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them, refuse to share their beds, and beat them lightly."

Sura (2:191-193) - "And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution [of Muslims] is worse than slaughter [of non-believers]...and fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah."

Sura (9:123) - "O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness."

Sura (48:29) - "Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. And those with him are hard (ruthless) against the disbelievers and merciful among themselves"

Sura (9:5) - "And when the forbidden months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever you find them and take them captive, and beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they repent and observe Prayer and pay the Zakaat, then leave their way free."

Scruffy - Wait, wait...I'm still looking for the parts that mention peace, love, tolerance and kindness! Surely there must be some reason they call it "the religion of peace" ???

The Islam often presented to the West is a religion of peace. That doesn't mean the religion as a whole is.

Ridiculous. What kind of "God" would need pathetic, weak humans to fight his battles for him? You'd think if the bear had bothered him that much, he could have just struck Ms. Gibbons with lightning, thus providing an object lesson for us all.
