Also what is 'speaking in tongues?" Some say that is speaking to others in their language about God,when you acutally do not know that lanquage. (Gift of the Holy Spirit)
Some say that if no one understand what you say that that is not speaking in tongues.
Please give Bible Scripture to support what your answer is. I often hear people saying things in churches that are "praying in the spirit"or "speaking in tongues" on religious TV shows and no one interprets it. So how do I know that is real?

Speaking in tongues in the Book of Acts was a gift from God to the first Christians. He supernaturally gave them languages they had not previously learned for the express purpose of spreading the gospel. The modern day tongues movement in the Pentecostal and Charismatic churches is completely a work of Satan-it is all fake. Why these people want to do this should be obvious. If you survey all the sex and money scandals over the last 50 years in the churches you find them almost exclusively in 2 places. If it is not a pedophile priest, it will almost with certainty be in a Pentecostal or Charismatic church. This happens for a reason. If the public, Christian or not, payed attention-they could see it.

Praying in tongues is a gift of the Spirit. Paul said that 10 words spoken in language we can understand is more profitable than 1000 words spoken in tongues without interpretation. I believe that tongues should only be spoken when there is interpretation or when it is being uttered in private prayer. Tongues is a heavenly language...and the believer doesn't even know the meaning of the words. It is communication between your spirit and the Father in heaven. It is used for edification.

Speaking in tongues means to pray or speak in a language that the speaker has not learned with his or her brain.

See the scriptures found in the link below.

When praying, tongues do not need to be interpreted since God understands.

If someone uses tongues to deliever a message to a group of people, then that would require interpretation.

I've been attending churches were people speak and or pray in tongues since I was a teenager.

I'd suggest you pay less attention to what people say and more attention to what God says.

If you are going to listen to people, listen to those who have been doing it, not those who have not.

Speaking in tongues is real. It does happen. I have never personally experienced this, but my mom has several times and other members of my church. The preacher interpretates usually. It is an amazing gift from the holy spirt.

Well,............
I am a Christian. My religion does nor speak in tongues, but I tell you-I went to a conference once that I wa really worshipping God while we were singing and having song praises, and I TELL YOU--God opened my mouth and I could not EVEN tell you what I said, but God carried my tongue, and allowed me to talk in tongues.
I have no idea STILL, to tell you what it is, but that it DOES HAPPEN, when your heart is open , talking to God.

I have not done it but once since, but NOW I know it is real.

Afterwards, I cannot explain how 'refreshed' I felt. Such love that cannot be explained. I was so at peace.
I STILL do not use it, but it is real.
