1) No original manuscript to read.

2) Not a shred of archaeological evidence.

3) Large sections were plagiarized from other works (including the Bible in King James English)

In my limited exposure to Mormons and the Book of Mormon I have some issues with it. First and foremost I had a good friend who is a Mormon while in school. But she told me some things that I couldn't believe anyone would think could possibly be right. I think it is so far away from the Bible that it isn't funny and gives Mormons the thought that they will gain Heaven by the things they do. Which was my perception of the things she told me. And I'm sorry but baptizing the dead isn't going to do anything but make a corps wet. Jesus Christ is the way the only way any that try to get in any other way isn't going to reach it. I just have a problem with the whole concept of Mormonism. However let me say that I think there are some wonderful people who believe that way. Wonderful singers, hard workers, easy to get along with, except when it comes to religious belief. I'm sorry that I don't have anything positive to say about the book I just really believe that the Bible is the only book to go by.

1. It was written by a false prophet and we are told not to listen to false prophets (Deuteronomy 18:22). One of many examples - Joseph smith predicted the civil war would be "poured out upon all nations. " (Doctrine and Covenants 87:2-3). That did not happen.

2. It has enough truth to tickle itching ears, but still enough lies to send a person to Hell. One example:
For we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do (2 Nephi 25:23)

"After all we can do" is boasting we can add something to what Jesus did on the cross. We cannot. (Eph 2:8-10). If we don't fully trust on Jesus, we don't have a saving faith. Yes, I know James 2:17. Please note - we are given faith by grace. We are saved by that faith. That faith also causes us to do works. It is the faith that saves though - not the works.

Another example: Alma 7:10 prophesies that Jesus would be born in Jerusalem. He was born in Bethlehem, so it is a false prophecy and also a lie. (Don't tell me Bethlehem is a suburb of Jerusalem - back then it was a long walk between them! The Bible gets the prophecy right.)

3. Joseph Smith doesn't even believe in the Book of Mormon. One example of many - One God or more than one God?
Alma 11 -
26 And Zeezrom said unto him: Thou sayest there is a true and living God?
27 And Amulek said: Yea, there is a true and living God.
28 Now Zeezrom said: Is there more than one God?
29 And he answered, No.

In the beginning, the head of the Gods called a council of the Gods; and they came together and concocted a plan to create the world and people in it (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 349).

Stanley - I haven't read all of the Book of Mormon. I have read enough of it to know it contains lies, false prophesies and contradicts the Bible on some key doctrines. I also know that large parts of Mosiah are copied from Isaiah word for word. For example, Mosiah 14:2-12 is the same as Isaiah 53:2-12. I guess at least those parts of the Bible were translated correctly, right?

The mormons believe the book of mormon to be a holy book, without error. A christian believes the bible to be the living word of God. It is hard to say anything without being biased. When we reach the end, I believe all will be revealed.

I have never read the book of Mormon so am not in a position to comment on it really, I just think that people should practise what suits them and what answers their questions and gives them hope, I don't think other religions should waste time picking holes all the time, just get on with what you believe and let others do the same.

The biggest problem to me is what is the purpose of it, when the Christian scriptures are in and of themselves thorough enough?

I do admire the Latter Day Saints for the emphasis on evangelism though. Although I don't agree with all they believe, it's admirable how they make such an effort to share their faith.

The same thing that is wrong with the Bible.....it was written by man and is passed off as the word of God. Even if you are a hardcore religious fanatic and believe that the words were transcribed by man from the actual words of God as spoken to him, it is still subject to that individuals interpretation. I realize you asked for 3, but I think this one is big enough to cover all the problems with ANY religious Tome.

I would have to go and watch that south park episode " All about Mormons" to see. Original Air Date: 11/19/2003 Episode # 712, from the Seventh Season

* Who is Joseph Smith

* He spoke with God and Jesus, in the woods. While praying asking God if he should be a Protestant, Catholic, or what. And suddenly God and Jesus appeared before him and they said that he should start his own church because non of the others had it right.

* And that night he saw an Angel, an ancient Native American" Moroni" with white skin. Yes long ago all Native Americans were white, We all came to America form Jerusalem. And while we were here we were visited by Christ. Jesus lived here in America, Yes. Eventually,my people were all killed by the other tribe of Israel. And as punishment God turned their skin red. These are the Native Americans you know today.

There is an ancient book buried near here. Written on gold plates that accounts my peoples lives. Also buried with the book are 2 see-er stones. The Ernm and the phylum. Find it and fulfill your destiny.

*He found another new testament of Jesus Christ. The gospel Jesus told the Neophytes. 4 gold plates and 2 see-er stones. But the angel Moroni appeared to him again and said that he is not allowed to show the see-er stone or gold plates to anybody. But that he must first translate what's on the plates to english so everybody else can read it.

* the gold plates told of the second coming of Jesus Christ in America.

* Mr. Harris, helped him translate what was written on the plates. by writting down what Joseph told him by placing the golden plates in a hat with the 2 ancient see-er stones. When he placed the see-er stones in the hat, the ancient letters lite up and change to english, so he could translate them.

* Adam and Eve lived in Jackson county Missouri.

* Lucy Harris, hide the first translation of the book of mormon.

* And now Joseph Smith can never translate from the plate of Lehigh, but now he must translate from the plate of Nephite. So it will be the same basic story but a little bit different.

I really do not have time to read that Morman book or all of the other writtings that came before or after the Bible. If I did, I probably would not have time to read the Bible itself. Adventists have Ellen G. White's books, The so-caled "Jehovah's Wittnesses have the Watchtower and other books, Catholics changed their Bible to fit their rituals. I stick mainly with the King James or NIV.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and Adventists has fragmented off into so many radical sects. Groups of Polygamists in Utah from the Mormans, and that David Koresh guy in Waco Texas a former Adventist. Radical changes in doctrine in Mornan stuff,(which has upset Mormans) and Adventists constant change of doctrine keeps me away from them both.

It is too short -- I want more.

It might be better if it came with snacks -- I'm thinking chocolate.

and

It would look snazzier in Lavender or Green.

Other than that it a totally wonderful book full of God's wisdom.
