I have a ton of digital pictures on my computer and it is such a pain to view the picture, remember the file name, close the picture and then rename the file so that I can find it at a later time. Is there anything out there that helps with this?

Assuming your using windows - go to my pictures, set "view - thumbnails" in the pull down menu. This way you can view all your pictures, albiet small, in the window, just click on the file name to change it.

Also suggest that you put your pictures in folders based on dates or events, that way it is easier to locate specific ones once you have 1000s to deal with.

All of the above can be done in Windows XP - nothing else required.

The best lightweight program to manage/catalog and do basic edits with pictures is Adobe Photoshop Elements, current version 6. It costs around $80+/- - put it on your xmas list. Elements allows you to add tags to pictures, then view pictures by tags. It's a slick feature.
