If you think about it as a rational person, this lack of evidence is startling. There is not one bit of empirical evidence indicating that today's "God", nor any other contemporary god, nor any god of the past, exists. In addition we know that:
If we had scientific proof of God's existence, we would talk about the "science of God" rather than "faith in God".
If we had scientific proof of God's existence, the study of God would be a scientific endeavor rather than a theological one.
If we had scientific proof of God's existence, all religious people would be aligning on the God that had been scientifically proven to exist. Instead there are thousands of gods and religions.
The reason for this lack of evidence is easy for any unbiased observer to see. The reason why there is no empirical evidence for God is because God is imaginary.

Space cowboy has it
The other angle is this. Can you provide conclusive proof that God does not exist? For it to be "scientific fact" you would have to provide evidence that you had searched the known universe for evidence and had found none whatsoever. You would only have to find one tiny shred of evidence for His existence to accept that there is at least the possibility that there is a God.
In the meantime, have a look at His creation - the whole universe is just so beautiful and dynamic that it defies logic.
Some guy on the radio the other day (BBC Radio 4) said that music was a function of evolution and that we would 'evolve out of it' one day - if that's the future science has for mankind - functional survival based on the fittest, you can keep it.

This has been my experience. I also see that the lack of evidence that many claim as being the truth is explained in the Bible.
God did not give many people the evidence.
He only gives the evidence to those who trust Him.
The only one's who He wants are going to be able to trust Him.
It is impossible to know God unless He wants you.
He does not want everybody.
So God holds onto the proof.
He only gives the proof to those who He wants.
It is against human nature to want to know God.
God will give the proof to those He wants to give the proof to.
The proof of God is given through His Spirit.
He will not give His Spirit to those He does not want.
So those people who claim that there is no proof of God are saying that THEY do not have any proof. It does not mean that there is no proof, they just don't have the proof.
If they say that they don't have the proof, they are saying the truth. God didn't give to them the proof.
Esoteric is a good word to describe the situation I am talking about. Jesus uses esoteric phrases ( as in the reason why he spoke in parables ) , in order to throw off those who might hear that God didn't want.
All this means that God does not include most people in the world in His plan for salvation.
From the Bible, this describes the meaning of the words of Jesus when he said, " Many are called, but few are chosen."
The call of salvation went to all who heard it. But only a remnant were given the ability to respond to the message.
God has long been the God who saved a remnant of the people - even the Jews.
So you will not get the proof of God except through the Spirit. If you do not get the proof of God through the Spirit, you will only get the proof after you die.
If you do not get the truth before you die- God did not want you.

Because we would worship the evidence instead of God himself. Cases in point, the Shroud of Turin, the Holy Grail, the Ark of the Covenant, Noah's Ark, and the image of the Virgin Mary in a piss stain on a wall in some alley. Look at all those on this site who just cannot believe without some proof from God that He exists. The whole idea behind faith is the belief without proof.

I might also ask: Why can we find no empirical evidence showing how life came from non-life? Yet it did...right? One thing we find over and over...is that HISTORY TRUMPS SCIENCE. For a long time, science taught that scientifically, bumblebees could not fly. Yet they continued flying. HISTORY TRUMPS SCIENCE. So you say you can't scientifically prove God's existence? Yet we find evidence of the supernatural origin of the Bible....testimony to God's miracles, to the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. HISTORY TRUMPS SCIENCE.

It's about faith. IMHO, I think it takes more faith to believe in evolution and the big bang theory than it does to believe that there is a God that created everything and who loves you.
