The Fundamental error of modern christianity is the interpretation that Jesus of Nazareth is a GRAND EXCEPTION, who cannot be imitated, instead of a GRAND EXAMPLE, who can and should be imitated. Any thoughts?

The fundamental mistake of modern Christianity is the same as the fundamental mistake of Islam, and most other organized religions: the thought that just because one person believes something that somehow they have the right to impose their morals & beliefs on others. This makes people very angry, and cause many people to oppose everything these religions teach.

Pft! Grand example! LOL! How do you know Jesus wasn't an imitation of someone prior. He had to learn from someone.
I think the real mistake of modern Christianity is the continual segregation of Christianity from 'humanity'. Take the 'Christ' out of Christianity and you have a perfect religion. No hocus pocus. No mythical human figure, just a god and a whole lot of nice people making the world a better place.
Peace.

The fundamental mistake of modern Christianity is reducing its mission and system of convictions to mere parodies of secularist assumptions and modern pre-occupations. Might it be possible for someone to be both a grand exception and a grand example? Classical Christian theology presents this understanding quite well, the two are not mutually exclusive in terms of Christology.

I don't think so. In every pulpit in every church, I'm certain that Jesus has been held up as an example rather than the exception. The fundamental (cute choice of words, btw) mistake is probably that we simply don't FOLLOW the example well enough.

Someone who has a little intelligence apparently. Untill I read some of the question in religion yesterday and today I just assumed people had more intelligence and were happy with theirselves and the choices they have made about what they believe. Basically we still have freedom of religion here where I live and we are free to make our own educated choice and looking at the attitudes of people around me makes it really easy!

I see your point.
I would add my point that a mistake that is being made is that many think we can decide what Christianity is supposed to be...people make in their minds their own idea of Jesus, and don't bother to get to know Him as He is. They can only do this by doubting or ignoring the Bible.

No one should be imitated. Each of us has is equipped with a brain to use as we wish. Meaning we can become as we wish with no excuses. This is an advantage which Christians cannot accept since they believe in Satan.

Interesting thought. I take him as an example, personally. It's always amazed me how many people who see him as God incarnate nevertheless act in ways that are very contrary to the message of love and social justice that he advocated. (i.e., demonize "the world" and don't contribute to making it a better place for us all)

Yep, and most fail to follow his example in WHO to pray to... Jesus taught the prayer "Our Father who art in heaven" not "pray to me". He said "why call me good when no one is good but the Father". Jesus prayed TO GOD and we should be doing the same, following his example.
