Well, I'm not sure there's a great deal of correlation between intelligence and religiosity, but if there is, it's a negative one. Still, some very smart people have been religious to one degree or another over time. I suppose some were cynical about it, and realized they could use it to manipulate the masses [which is, I think, what Marx really meant about opium]. Others probably understood that even myth and metaphor, and a vocabulary that includes symbols as well as words, can explain things that cannot be explained any other way. Before psychiatry, it was the only way to have much of anything to say about the human mind, for example. And distinguishing between mind and soul is obviously important for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is acknowledging that many rather simple-minded people have beautiful souls. The reverse is, of course, also true.
Let's get over calling one another stupid, shall we? It makes more sense to discuss issues on rational grounds, which assumes a certain level of intelligence on the part of all parties involved. It doesn't take long to distinguish the genuinely "challenged" ones.

I'd say both sides are equally challenged.
I know many intelligent, bright and creative Christians, but I also know many intelligent, bright and creative atheists.
However, I have found that people who are obsessed with figuring everything out have a very hard time submitting to God. I think this is because they like having a sense of control in every matter; while those with childlike wonder just grasp the gospel and run with it without an issue.

I do not judge anyone by the group they are in. I know incredibly intelligent religious people. I do have to say, I don't know any stupid atheists, but I know a lot fewer atheists, as I live in Texas, aka Jesus Land.

think of it as a scale with +10 being "Pray or burn in hell"
and -10 being "i'll sue your school for saying pledge of alliegiance"
0 is like the porridge goldylocks ate, and thats what you want to shoot for.

Both in their own way. As soon as you close your mind to any possibility your ability to find an answer is limited

Christians live by faith which comes from love and hope.
Atheists require proof but can provide none.
You figure it out.
