My wife has approx 12 quarters paid into SS. She drove a bus and paid into a teachers retirement system and did not pay into SS. Can she pay FICA taxes on these years so that she has the necessary quarters to quailify for disability benefits ?

I wouldn't think so it's teacher retirement is considered contributions rather than expense because if she quit the school district, she can cash out or roll it over like an IRA.

No, the employment is either covered or it isn't, and that part wasn't.

She might consider picking up some kind of part time retail job for 2 years to get those other quarters. But if she's disabled now, that won't work either.

No, she can't. Sorry. Entitlement to SS benefits is based upon the lifetime SS wages paid. Wages from an exempt position such as hers are not SS wages paid and can't be used for calculation of SS benefits.

Go back to kindergarten. Didn't your teacher teach you that anything is possible?
