I think god chooses to be stupid, to test our intelligence.

Well, the simple answer is that it is not the word of God. Except perhaps to the extent that it was the words that effectively created the god of the Jews. But let's go a step further. Perhaps God, in his infinite wisdom [that's what my Sunday school teacher mother used to say] decided that the people who were writing down his words could not handle the truth about life, the universe and everything. So he gave them myth and allegory as the best they could handle.
Sort of like Star Trek's primate directive. Or more precisely, sort of like a decision NOT to give a monolith to the apes, as in 2001.

It was written by men. Some have that "divine guidance" faith, but I do not. It is a book about God but not by God. There have been hundreds of attempts to make the Bible more contemporary or easier to read by updating the language for modern and younger readers, but I would love to see a re-write that made the protrayal of God and Jesus much more cohesive and believable. We could cut out the Pagan imagery that was put in to pretty the New Testamant up for converts of the time, too. I think it would be good to go back to the base material - all the Dead Sea Scrolls and earliest versions to see which pieces fit, drop the current mutliple authorship format and make one tale about mankinds creation and his relationship with God.

Actually, the 'Bible' is a complete cosmology of the Universe and all it contains, but this knowledge is hidden from the selfish and profane mind.
The 'Bible' is also the greatest collection of Psychological Text Books ever written. It is divided into two main sections:
The Enslaved and Degenerate Will (Commonly called The Old Testament) and,
The New Redeemed and Free Will (Commonly called the New Testament)
Hidden within the pages of scripture is a detailed description of how to overcome the only enemy you will ever have:
Your own selfish ego.
The old enslaved and degenerate will is written in Ibri (Hebrew) and that wording flows from Right to Left signifying Meta-Physically that this knowledge comes from the 'other side' - i.e. from the Spiritual side of Life (the right hand of the father) and that is why it is written in Hebrew.
The New Redeemed and Free Will is written in Greek, where the letters flow from left to right showing that our participation is necessary to free our will and save our lives.
The Bible describes a process of transformation whereby the Power of the Word seeps into the soil of the mind and germinates the highest ideals hidden deep within us allowing them to germinate and transform our character, from ignorant, selfish, greedy, fearful people, into the Children of the Ever-Living God.
God's activity is not restricted to the Bible, we do not live, but God lives and breathes through us. Each person is an instrunment of God, whether they realise it or not.
The more people awaken to their Spiritual nature, the quicker they free themselves from the suffering created and sustained by the selfish ego.
As it is written, so shall it be!
"Awake thou that sleepest (in the selfish ego) and the Light of Christ shall shine from within thee!"

Just because he's not discussing flying cars, physics and genetics doesn't mean he's being primitive. ALL of the information in the bible is accurate and practical for today's society. The bible more talks about the way we should live not the scientific facts.

You have to communicate with people by referencing the things that they understand. If you were dealing with a newly discovered tribe of humans, you couldn't refer to ovens, kitchen ware, knives and forks, wheelbarrows or scissors, not to mention microwave ovens, computers, etc. If God communicated with the people of those days through the prophets, then He/She had to use references to things in their daily life.

Wow, you must be really smart to know that God knows so little. You should ask forgiveness for thinking this. Because one day god tells us that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is lord.
