Yes they can. Dealers get vehicles from other dealers all the time. They usually trade one vehicle for another. I know several people who work part time driving vehicles to other dealerships and trade it for another.

If it's a brand new car, dealer can buy from another dealer whom has one in inventory, its called a dealer trade and it's done every day.
If it's a used 2007 Ford Focus, dealer can go on line and bid on lease returns through Ford credit lease returns. that is if it's a Ford dealer your buying from, if its not then dealer can only buy from a dealer auction.
Keep in mind if your buying a Focus the best selection is from a Ford dealer as they have first choice, leftovers will be send to the dealer auctions where all dealers can bid.

Dealers do it all the time. It is called a dealer exchange or a "DX". If a dealer has a leftover 07 on their lot, they will be glad to get rid of it, and will sell it to another dealer!!
Just be sure that car has the options you want, before you agree to buy it!

Dealers will gladly search inventory on other dealerships in the area in order to find the right vehicle for you. They basically do a trade with the other dealer. There is a catch however. They will charge you for the transportation of the vehicle from their location to yours. (its not like you'd want them driving it over from one dealership to the other right?)
This option was presented to me when I was shopping around for a specific Mustang this past May. I opted not to go that route because it was a good 600-700 dollars more.

dealer trades happen every day........ucantseeme...... is way off base. they wont tell you where the car is and why would you try to cut out the midddle man when they are working hard to earn your business why would they want to work for free? there is nothing wrong with the dealer making a fair profit

YES THEY CAN AND IT WILL COST YOU MORE MONEY IN THE LONG RUN.
JUST HAVE THEM PUT IT ON WHAT IS CALLED A "LOCATER" FOR YOU AND WHEN THEY FIND IT, YOU GO AND LOOK AT IT AND OR BUY IT AND CUT OUT THE MIDDLE MAN.
