Maybe if the server has a really good personality and flirts with me. Looks won't help one bit if the service sucks.
I was at a restaurant on Tuesday night, the place was slammed for a Tuesday, they had one waitress on covering a section that would normally have 2-3 waitresses. I noticed how hard she was hustling and she never missed a step on our service - she got more than 20%.

No, and being a server for a time in my life and knowing how much work it involves and getting a tip that is not what it should be, I have to say in all honesty it has nothing to do with how attractive the server is and this is from my point of view being a woman and seeing how my dad tips and he was a bartender most of his life and tips very well. He does not tip on looks he tips very well (better than me) and I tip good also. To get to the point sorry, it has to do with service and the personalilty of the server there is nothing more annoying than a rude server. How they think they are going to make any money is beyond me.

To be totally honest... sometimes, yes. If he's friendly and flirty and good looking, he'll get a better tip from me (as long as the service is good).
My brother and I are both good tippers. We generally tip 20% for decent/good service, and 25-30% for those that go the extra mile. We don't buy into this "don't tip on the alcohol" or "base the tip on the total before taxes", or any of the other little tricks the rest of our family uses to save a few bucks.
When we go to our favorite restaurants, we have our "own" servers who almost always seat us in their area.
It pays off - we get faster, better service, free refills in restaurants that generally don't give them, free desserts, etc.
It's the right thing to do, and it's well worth it!

my tips are based purely on service provided.
Of course if the person that comes to my table is dirty or appears to be uncared for then I wouldn't even stay for my meal.
Good service 20%. Great service 25%. Poor service 6% (depends on state but the person waiting that table has to pay taxes on what is expected to be an average tip per $100 made).

as working in the industry myself, it depends on the type of place first of all, is it a five star restaurant, if so, then no people generally dont even look at the server, they want what they want when they want it. They dont go there because their favorite hot server Heather is working. if it is a sportsbar casual neighborhood restaurant, then definitely... it has to do with looks, and of course the service. at a neighborhood place or mediocre bar/restaurant, you can basicallyl go down the street for the same type of food, you go there for the personality and ambiance of the place, and this includes the staffs looks and personality...

This goes of anyone, If I get good service than I tip well, but if service sucks than it all depends on how bad the service was, I may not tip at all, I don't care if your cute, pretty, ugly, or scary looking. My boyfriend and I go out to dinner about 6 days a week, we spend about $135 per dinner, yes we go out to very nice restaurants, and a few times I left $250 tip..

I use a standard 15% tip rule. If the waitress is especially attractive AND provided good service, yes I'll tip more. If she is attractive and did not provide good service, she may not get anything. If she provided the usual service, nothing to write home about, and is attractive, she gets the usual 15% tip.

I don't tip more than I would an ugly server. I don't really care about what they look like. It's not like I'm going to get to date them if I give them 8 dollars instead of 5. What I really care about is whether they deserve a decent tip or not. If they do, whether they are gorgeous or hideous, I tip really well. If they don't, then they don't get much from me.

It's usually the same cheap 10%, unless the SERVICE is extraordinary, then I tip more. I could care less what the wait staff looks like. And if the service is poor, I tip less.

Not any more than I would anyone else. The best server for me is one that I dont notice.. that my meal is brought quickly, my glass is refilled without having to ask..
