My cousin decorated our flat by pasting lining paper onto the walls then painting on matt white paint. Why is it that whenever someone touches the wall it leaves a grubby mark? Our hands aren't that dirty! Is it something to do with the process she used?

keep in mind that a flat or matt paint should be used in low raffic areas where people aren't touching it (ceilings, high spaces, and a few rooms) satin, gloss, eggshell, etc are all better at resisting day to day life. Even the next step up from matt would help your matters, you don't need to get the super shiney paint if it's not to your liking. BTW, we have cats who love to paw at our chocolate brown FLAT MATT wall. There get to be sooooooo many prints on it, it's reidiculous, but you can always wash them away. Well, for a while. You see, the same thing that protects the paint and walls from your touch also makes it last longer to cleaning, so be careful not to scrub it away.
