I lived in Poughkeepsie during my college days (the 80's)

Granted, it is only 75 miles away (hour and change) via a Metro-North railroad ride but it is definitely a world away.

I was not used to the fact that public transportation there ended at 6:30 PM, let alone one bus serving the entire route. And that the only major shopping was done at the malls and that when you went out, it was just pitch dark with nothing on the streets. The ONLY thing that was open 24 hours were the convenient/7-11 style stores. And they were far and few in between.

It took a bit but I did adjust to the slower lifestyle. But when I couldn't take certain days being "slower" than others, I hit on the Metro-North train..went to Grand Central and partied!

I don't think now, I could ever do a "Poughkeepsie" again...I am too immersed in the NYC life. Though, Newport, Rhode Island is tempting!

I lived in Brooklyn and Staten Island for a few years and I left the city in 2003 and did New Jersey and now I live in PA...I am surviving just fine....There is no city in the world like NYC and if you can make it there you can make it anywhere!! I also have been to LA San Diego Las Vegas and a few other cities and survived!!!

I still work in NYC and with my job I am all over the city so I still get my fair share of NYC!!!

I lived in Columbus Ohio. It is a good city and I like coming back. But I don't feel alive there. New York is my solace.
