i saw the tofu shop in the net. So i thought the story might be real.

It is loosely based on the life of Keiichi Tsuichiya, a professional driver, who was also a consultant for the show. He developed his showy drifting style while driving mountain passes much like those featured in the show.

In a more general sense, drifting is not a way to go faster on paved roads. It is slower, but more showy. On loose surfaces, such as those found in rally racing, the drivers can use the natural yaw rate of the car to turn more quickly. That's why everyone slides around turns in WRC events.

I dont think it is real, but it is based on a comic book.
