Oh what next! I'm Welsh and very proud of it too but I wouldn't take offence if I was called English as some of my best mates are English. I think people take things far too seriously these days. If I'd taken offence every time over the years when people have called me Taffy asked me if us Welsh still live in caves or have had to put up with the obligatory sheep jokes I would have spent half my life upset or taking legal action. Why can't we all be proud of who we are and get along with and respect everyone else whatever Nationality.

Ah, so it would've been ok if the man had called the woman a Welsh b*****, would it? It's not the insult, it's the **error** that's the problem?

I don't get it. I AM English but I've been mistaken for French a few times and I don't object to that at all, despite the historic enmity between France and England. What's so terrible about being English that being mistakenly called it is such an insult, a worse insult than being compared to a dumb animal (with mean, vicious overtones)?

Get your priorities sorted out, I say! We're all human, we're all British, we're all subject to Brussels in the EU anyway now. What does it matter?

oops! Where does that leave me?
Born in England, a Welsh Grandmother, a Scottish Gt. grandmother, a Gt. grandfather called Colley (which is probably Irish originally), 2xGt. grandparents who settled in Sydney voluntarily and a 3x Gt.uncle who went in chains, umpteenth Gt. grandparents called Beniamin Bourgoyne & Gatherude Rue, and DNA which puts my original ancestors East of where Moscow is sited some 17,000 years ago! Married a guy whose ancestors are Irish, Latvian and Portuguese.
I'm taking someone to Court and will be demanding that I be called an ... er ..... er.....? b***h!

My partner is Welsh, he nearly wet himself laughing when he saw that story.
While I can appreciate it must be annoying to be called a nationality you're not, the age of political correctness has gone well overboard now when people are locked up for it. No wonder murderers, rapists, etc are still wandering the streets if the taxpayer is stumping up for something like this.

How would one know what to call a person? If i were in England i would not know who was Welsh or Scottish or whatever . I would not like to offend anyone but how would i know?? The fool in the story was an ingrate and wanted to offend. That is inexcusable. Again how would one know if you live in England i would assume you were English. Sorry.

I dream of the day when we as people will no longer divide ourselves by perceptions of nationality, when titles like "English" or "Welsh" are no longer used.

Ok, its fine to be proud of your people's achievements in the past and the present, but the world has been taking it too far throughout the last century.

I detest being called English - I am a British citizen, I speak English as do so many people all over the world, that does not mean they are "English"

My passport states I am a British Citizen even though I live in Ireland!

The guy in question was Irish, so may have considered her to be English rather than Welsh. A lot of foreigners do that for some reason.

I'm Scottish and I don't want to be called English, but I sure as hell wouldn't call the police about it. I'd be more offended at being called a b*tch.

I've been called a sweaty sock, porridge gobbler you name it, and I'm sure we've all been called something along these lines, but we can't call the police every time this happens.
